Okay guys..I might be flamed for posting my own review on this N97..
But anyway..I hope I don't get flame without a reason and I really hope it is out of my own stupidity of not knowing how to use the phone properly..

Here goes,

Just got this phone yesterday, not very impressed, but rather, disappointed. -.-
It get hangs and lag pretty badly and so frequently that I have to switch off and on the phone..
The touch screen isn't too smooth. (Well compare to iphone and such)
Annoying loud clapping sound when pushing up the screen for the keyboard.
Slow responsive accelerometer sensor.
Backlitting for the keyboard is stupid as well. Could be the light sensor isn't sensitive enough, it lits up even though its exposed under the bright room light, and making me even harder to see the words on the keyboards.
Without the backlitting, every words is black and it's so easy to see rather than backlitted.
Though, in the dark, the backlitting is very nice.

I don't know why but the removal of the usual charging port annoys me, and the fact that they changed the usb port as well, but this is personal, nothing to do with overall of the phone.

And the SDHC micro SD memory slot is just lame, you have to remove the back plate for access and what even lamer is, it is very hard to remove the memory card once you put it in place (I'm not sure if this is my phone problem or not or that I'm not doing it right)

And another thing that I noticed is the music player, it's even worst than N95, in terms of interface, there is some improvement, but for music quality, it's downright lousy.
(Well, I've got my proper portable music player so this isn't a big deal for me anymore)

Hope the future firmware will fix these issues.

77mb for the phone memory is just bad...(Even lesser than N95 which have around 140mb+)
I get a lot of "Phone memory low" warning messages quite frequently too..

32Gb Onboard is sweet though. But that's about it, I'm not sure how am I gonna fill them up lol.
The web browser..I wouldn't say it's great but yes it's now usable comparing to N95's one (LoL)

Anyhow, the large sized screen is nice, bright and sharp (Too bad touch screen isn't good/responsive enough)
I like the front face design of N97, it's why I even consider this device, I just can't get myself to like iphone, they look stupid to me.
N97 has at least some sense of fashion with it, iphone? Ermm no.

I should consider selling it..soon perhaps. doh.gif

Thank you for reading. And I hope someone can enlighten me regarding the problem I mentioned above..

WOW  shocking.gif  shocking.gif

I thought N97 has better SQ via headphone output than 5800 based on multiple reviews. And i think 5800 is a lot better than N95, N82, N81 generation SQ. A lot bettter till i decided to sell my Sony DAP.

Really? I've tried on my own headphones (Grado SR-60 and Altec Lansing iM716, both amped) and they sucked sorta bad, especially the Bass, it basically screwed up all the trebles/vocal entirely and left you some muddy low quality bass. I don't know, it could be that I'm used to Sony X-1060 mp3 player recently and thus feeling this N97 music playing ability sucked. (But honest to god, N95's equalizer is better, raising up the bass doesn't makes it screwed like N97's.)

For the slowness, the lags and the hangs and backlighting probs... try to the new firmware update when its out and see.. hopefully it will improve RAM management as well. It won't give you more RAM, but maybe it can free up more RAM.

I dun get the clapping sound when I flip up the screen. Maybe its the way your are doing it?

As for the memory card slot and having to open the back cover to access the slot, well, with 32GB onboard (which you also have said that you dunno how to fill up), most users will seldom have to access the card slot. In a way, its good that the card slot is not on the "outside'. If its outside and there is a cover, there may be a worry about the cover accidentally breaking off. And if there is no cover, there is a worry the slot is too exposed. With 32GB built-in, Nokia probably decided to put the card slot under the back cover to also avoid the aforesaid possible issues.
*
I sure hope that is true. Basically you have around,30mb+ of free memory after the phone is booted, and that is really bad lol.

I'm not sure if it's my problem but I've read some reviews around also stating the same problem.
It's not a big problem, so long it doesn't snapped in half after 1 year of usage.

You are probably right about the memory slot, I have to agree with you, but I was just saying the fact as well, it's really goddamned hard to remove the card once you put it in place nicely.
I only tried inserting it once and I swear to god I'll not do the second time.

Actually, I find that the N97's output through the headphones is louder than the 5800's. However, as to quality compared to dedicated music players, thats a different story.

But i for one think we shouldn't compare the N97's music quality to dedicated music players for obvious reasons...
*
I know we shouldn't. But there is no reason why it should be worst than it's ancestor N95 -_____-

I sorta found how does the slide show works while I still had the phone..
I think the time it counts ONLY when it's on the standby mode screen aka the "main page".

Set the interval to 1 minute and try leaving your phone alone for 1 minute at standby mode, the wallpaper will change.

Btw I hate to say this but, how do you guys take care of the chrome framing of the phone?
I doubt it's scratch resistance so I'd expect to see a lot of micro scratches all over it after a month of usage lol..

The phone was great, the matte body and back plate, but it's the chrome framing that makes this phone so "fragile" sweat.gif
IMO, using the pouch will cause micro scratches easily, especially when you slide in and pull it out.
You guys notice the small label inside the pouch? That will no doubt scratch the chrome frame lol.

With all due respect, sir, but the left one looks bluish, white balance is screwed.
