I am interested on getting another Wii for my import needs but I am quite confused now and hope to get some information from fellow gamers here I saw that the Japan version is much more cheaper even after modification on US version. Will I be able to play games from other regions aka. PAL & US NTSC? I heard it can, but I need double confirmation If I want to play imports, would getting a modded console a justifiable option? How about system updates through softwares (since I don't online)? Let's say my firmware is 3.3 on my Japanese console, can I update it with a foreign game? Thanks in advance

lets say your wii is a modded japan NTSC/J console with 3.3J firmware. If you pop in a NTSC/US Wii Music, it will ask you to update your system If update, Wii = Bricked or Semi-Bricked If don't update, can't play Or you can bypass the update using HBC, hence playable without updates. Added on December 1, 2008, 4:01 pmbtw, HBC = Home Brew Channel how to install HBC? go ask uncle google too sensitive to talk about HBC here, some equal HBC = Piracy I personally uses HBC to watch RMVB videos This post has been edited by greyshadow: Dec 1 2008, 04:01 PM

HBC = Home brew channel right? Where to get it? Is it possible to apply it on a non modded console as well so that I can continue the use of free loader for imports?
Added on December 1, 2008, 4:02 pmOk ignore my "Where to get it?"

HBC is possible on non modded console using twilight hack free loader for Wii? Stupid ninty already render it useless after firmware updates Added on December 1, 2008, 4:26 pmbut updates 3.3v2 onwards are killing off the HBC This post has been edited by greyshadow: Dec 1 2008, 04:26 PM

QUOTE(gundamalpha @ Dec 1 2008, 04:34 PM) So it's all going back to a modded Wii for import needs in the end? Just get ZTP so you can play and then get HBC. It's the Wii's Pandora Batt. For Tatsunoko vs Capcom, I would!

But do take note of ALL the precautions(bricking mainly). Try wiibrew.org .. I think it's that site. Should have everything for your Wii homebrew needs.

As far as I've knew :
First method : Modchip ( Wiikey ori and clone and etc ) So far still best compare to softmod, not influence by firmware update, which might broken HBC and other HB software such as Backup launcher 0.3
Second method : Softmod (exploit using ZTP + Backup launcher 0.3) Need quite complicated steps, actually just follow the instruction, you wont go wrong. Compatibility so far is 90-95%, comparing with modchip is 99%. Minor video issue, stuttering, some reported to be freezing at games, means high possible to spoil your gaming mood!
After install modchip / softmod most of the region issue will be solved. Actually, if you have HBC, just use the AnyRegion Changer 1.2, to change your wii to the region/langauge that you want, and downgrade to 3.2U, so far the best firmware, all other 3.3/3.4 will cause problem on the HBC/Homebrew.
BTW, the Wii Music / Fatal Frame 4 system update can be skipped using Gecko OS 1.07, just insert the game and open this homebrew. If anyone cannot find the Gecko OS Channel, could pm me.

Can a soft modded Wii play 3.3/3.4 firmware games?
PaiGe, from what I heard it isn't safe. Need experts to confirm this though.
