around the PC Fair time, Machines advertised that every alu macbook purchased would receive a 'free 2GB RAM' upgrade. obviously you would think they would add a 2GB RAM into the machine - totalling it to 4GB (the macbook comes with 2GB).
when my friend checked her macbook info back home, to her surprise her machine totalled up to only 3GBs of RAM... she then realised to her dismay that the Machines staff took out a 1GB memory that was pre-installed in the macbook, and put in the 'promised/as advertised' 2GB. the 1GB was not returned back to her.
she called asking for it back but Machines gave all sorts of silly rude reasons - that the 1GB 'original apple RAM' is now theirs... this did not mirror the information given in the advertising - or the ad was just misleading. fortunately after another angry phonecall, they gave in and decided to give back the 1GB... but as far as I know her macbook is still 3GB, with an extra 1GB laying around her house.
forgive me if i am confusing... typing this from memory and not first hand account, but i think that is mostly what happened.
Machines staff are a sly bunch, it seems. just make sure when you get your computer, check the specs to make sure it tallys with the promotion... etc. very 'mah fan' if kena con like my friend
