hell man. THey don't allow 1 to 1 replacement.. aiks.. i so no confident later they will going to take care my precious while exchange the LCD hardware.

Just purely bad luck.. Now my friend laugh at me wif my stupid pricey mbp..  doh.gif

Memang pro..two weeks only.. Haha.. Macbook pro'blem' ..i name it.

The staff said go to VR technology can fastern up the fixing process. Maybe within 1 week can settle. For Machine. they will spent 3 days to troubleshooting, and another 1 week plus to queue up for replacing the faulty parts.

Anyone here try VR Tech service before so far?

i'm sure you can get them to jot down your serial number, let them order the parts first, wait till the parts arrive, then only you send in your mbp for repair...

i forgot... 1-to-1 exchange on Apple's internal side....

however i find that Apple's policy is sometimes ridiculous considering that sometimes even though workable parts are broken, Apple still insist on sending it in before ordering, especially laptops, owners are deprived of their machine to work on....

QUOTE(critter @ Jun 4 2009, 12:25 AM)
Need to buy a Mac Pro ASAP. Speced out the Mac Pro via Apple Store Online - total came to RM29,914. Went to Machines @ Sunway yesterday - came out totally pissed!! Sales guy told me I am not eligible to the RM98 rebate which is extra. 2% of 29,914 is 598.28. According to him, max rebate is only RM500. So the extra 98.28 is burn. So I said ok, I split the purchase in two, 1 for the Mac Pro and the other for the Mac Raid and Apple Displays, again he said can't do that, it comes together....I was like WTF??

The ppl there are just as blur as me...I ask them whether the 4 Mac Pro Hard disk slots accepts

a)normal SATA drives (Sata Cable connect)
product url - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=459 or

b)Sata drives which has a backplane (backplane ready)
product url - http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=495

and the look on his face is priceless!!!! And I wasn't even asking about SSD as boot up drives yet!!!

One would expect the purchasing experience of a RM30K product to be enjoyble and pleasant but I guess I over estimated the "Malaysian" sales experience. I have had better "puchasing experience" at jewelry shops when purchasing less pricey items with my wife and I was not even the "star"

So the million dollar question is - shall I

1) bugger those physical presence Apple Sellers and buy online (if I buy online - I can't get any freebies)

2) Keep on looking for the "wonderful purchasing experience"

You comments are welcome

ps - the airport extreme which I bought yesterday is wonderful...for some reasons, surfing speed has increase - much more snappy now  (pc is not a n wireless) but the case is a bit too warm for my liking - (common phenomenon which I found out)

*
Since you said any comments are welcomed, I'm gonna chip in mine.

Isn't it clear that whatever your technical questions might be, you're actually asking the wrong kind of ppl...? You should be asking for the technical ppl to address your technical concerns, and I'm sure Apple themselves have lots of venues for such questions, AppleCare..? Apple Discussion Board..? 3rd party manufacturers' support lines (for your 3rd-party accessories and parts inquiries). Personally, I won't rely on sales ppl from resellers. I'll take my case to more knowledgeable ppl, or I'll do a thorough research myself.

Since their max rebate is 500 bucks, I'm not gonna comment about resellers' policy, but I find it puzzling that you can afford to buy a well-spec-ed 30K Mac Pro, and yet you worry about them forfeiting you a rebate of only 98 bucks...? That is like what....? 0.3%...?

From what I can see, a lot of resellers offered ain't much, even if freebies comes in forms of accessories, they're most likely el-cheapo stuff, let alone if they match your unique Mac Pro usage.

So your million dollar answer will be, to buy directly from Apple Online store, or better still go straight to Apple RETAIL store if you can afford the hassle. Make sure you carry a black metal Amex card with you.

However I bet it's a good thing you had better purchasing experience with your wife, otherwise this Mac Pro of yours will likely be an alimony to her.

I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice about getting your most cherished "wonderful purchasing experience", but imho, personally, such things don't exist. But Apple and TNB will most likely be getting their "wonderful profiting experience" out of your purchase and usage.

And to your questions above, visit barefeats.com for more information. Search for Velociraptor. It's not that hard, isn't it...?

actually Online store is a gud concept
But the concept is often affect by the online seller
such as
after u bid, they sent u the stuff, but the atuff arrived as DOA
so tis fear quite a number of ppl buying online

but from my point of view, Malaysia Apple Online Store should offer 12 or 24 months Installment such as being offered by Singapore and USD (as far as i noe)

I found this in Mac City July Promotion :

MacBook Pro (MC026)
- 15", 2.66GHz
RM6,899

Is this MacBook Pro an old model or new?
*
If you google MC026, you will find that it is referring to the older mid-range 15" model from the early 2009 that succeeded the 2.53GHz 15" MBP late 2008, but preceded by the current 2.8GHz mid-2009.

@John89,
What Eithanius means is that this particular model came out after the 2.53GHz 15" MBP but it's now been replaced by the current 2.8GHz mid 2009 model.

Hence, in chronological order it should be:-
2.53GHz 15" MBP --> MC026 (d one on promotion!) --> 2.8GHz mid 2009 model
*
MB471 --> MC026 --> MB986

Now this is even more confusing... tongue.gif

yeah, this is confusing ><

1 more question.

is the MC026 same as today's MC985 ?
*
Yes albeit a few things...

1. nVidia GeForce 9600GT M 256MB on MB985... vs 512MB on MC026

2. ExpressCard on MC026 made way for an SD card slot on MB985

3. Longer battery life on MB985 due to an increase in size of the non-removable battery.

However if I were you, I'll pick the cheaper MC026 for the extra juice on the graphics as well as the versatility of the ExpressCard.

Does anyone know if the 4GB ram offered by these apple resellers are DDR3 type ram? I've heard the video card shares the ram, so its performance will be better if it is DDR3 and not DDR2.

For that reason alone, it might be better to buy ram and install it by yourself -- but I am not too sure how much the performance differs between the two types.
*
geesh... you think you can mix DDR2 with DDR3 RAMs...? Just what kind of question is that...? As long as your Mac supports DDR3, then resellers will install DDR3 for you. Both DDR2 and DDR3 differs in the number of pins, you cannot simply install one on the another, else there goes your logic board.

Right now there's only one Mac that uses DDR2, the White MacBook.

Added on August 31, 2009, 7:44 pmI take that back. You might be right about the incompatibility between the two chips, but in regards to the pins:

"DDR3 DIMMs have 240 pins, the same number as DDR2, and are the same size, but are electrically incompatible and have a different key notch location.[6] DDR3 SO-DIMMs have 204 pins."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM

lol.
*
I was referring to the SO-DIMM pins since majority of Macs uses these... they are different... the only Mac that uses a full-size DIMMs is Mac Pro... and just in case you question it, older Mac Pro uses FB-DIMMs while the latest Nehalem MPs use standard DIMMs albeit both with ECC support...

Can you please define how would you void your warranty if and when you know the ins and outs of changing hdd and ram without breaking things....?

And are you implying that even if someone buys his own ram and hdd, and asked one of the techs from any apple resellers to change these components for a service fee, it also voids the warranty..?

hmm I dont know about apple ... but there should be a sticker on the ram and hdd of a laptop where it says warranty would be voided once you remove the ram or hdd....  if it is as you said that you asked techs from apple reseller to add/change ram or hdd, i suppose they have some stickers to put back on it ?   Im not sure how they protect the existing ram or hdd from being changed but tats how they do it for normal laptop ..

Added on September 2, 2009, 5:18 pmthus, if you change yourselves, logically it would void the warranty as apple would not want to be responsible on the devices which are not from them.

hmm, if you had to choose between a MBP 13" or  a 32" tv, which one would you choose?

The point is, i have a macbook already (black 2.0 ghz with 2 gb ram) and its still working fine. Should I hold on for another year before upgrading? What will apple improve in a year in their MBP lines? I can only see a slightly higher CPU spec, default ram of 4 gb, bigger HD, and perhaps a better video card.

Then theres that apple tablet thats suppose to come out sometime over the holidays.

How about if I spend that money on a 32" HDTV? The problem is, the only use I'll have for a TV is if I hook up my PS3 to it; I download all my other shows.

Some hard choices to make here...

Dude, can you please go do some read up....?

What is the thermal envelope for processors living inside the iMac right now...? The maximum processor TDP for the iMacs are 45W... And that's like what... 3.06GHz dual-core of the pre-2009 iMacs....

Clarksfield, even with the lowest TDP is also at 45W... and that's a sub-2.0GHz quaddies without Turbo Boost... please read 45W...

Did Apple ever put in a 45W on a thin sub-1 inch notebook...? The max it went was 35W on MBPs 2.66GHz (previous gen), 2.93GHz, and 3.06GHz, and for that ppl already complaining about heat.
