Guys,

i've been trying to google but can't really find a proper instruction to replace the iphone back housing.

Anyone who has already tried this method before?
If you have the steps or video link showing how to replace, will appreciate if we can post it up here for all owners as a guide for DIY repair/replacement?

Also, i notice there's a few types of housing, some is just purely the housing while some housing got the metal bracket inside. I read one site where you have to use a super strong solvent to melt the glue on the inner side of the housing cover. Wow, i think this method not that good.

http://www.macrumors.com/iphone/2007/07/30...hone-enclosure/

So if there's any good way to replace, do share here.
hehe...

Thanks.

Yea, not so easy to replace the housing. You literally have to rip the phone apart so to speak. I believe one or two of the forumers here have done so and there is even one who provides the service. I can't recall who right now but I think you'll be able to find him if you browse through either the casing review or pictures thread.

we have previously discussed that relatively naive method before and it will not work unfortunately.

do you actually know how they get colors on the aluminium surface?
google anodize, its a special treatment to get the colors onto the aluminium

normal paint definitely wouldnt make the cut, its like buying off the shelves paint canisters and spray paint your car

Why not you cuba try test and let us know. Maybe it will turn out real good. Then snap some photos and have us look at it.

Added on November 27, 2008, 7:09 pmwell...if the feedback here sayz it's not nice and in fact almost impossible to spray it....i won't go tangan gatal la...
another option i can think of is to get those slim fit snap on rubber casing for the back housing..
looks kinda nice...and can close the scratches...

the existing colour for the iPhone 3G is plastic la... dun wanna paint it. prefer to use gelaskin or something similar... gonna be very hard to isolate the  logo, paint around it...
i doubt the colour will stick though... the surface is very smooth... how to get the colour to not peel off?
