The new move commands really open up possibilities for high-level combos/moves previously seen in Japanese matches, to be used in both casual play or tournaments! e.g. Guile's jump crossover lk, land, D+lk, D+lk, super (charge DB, D, DF, F, UF+K) - or Zangief's WALKING super (HCB x2, F+P)

In fact, I enjoy local games more than anything as compared to fighting people in US, as the pings are 400ms at minimum, for me. Perhaps if I switch to a wired connection it'll improve but I don't expect much of a boost.

But at 300-400ms pings, my matches with US players are still decent - good networking code here. I really hope Sony releases this to the JP/SG/HK/AU PSN networks so we can have more random matches with people around this region. Plus we can finally get to battle the Japanese

I used American Express flawlessly. The authorization gateway works different from VS/MC. The overall exchange rate conversion is currently at 3.7x which I think is more viable than PSN cards.

A wireless stick may contribute to input lag, e.g. button presses registering late. For even a few milliseconds this may result in a delayed reversal dragon punch, ergo - causing the loss of the match or even the whole tournament. Due to this and low demand, arcade stick manufacturers continue producing wired versions. Nevertheless, Mad Catz has an array of wireless SFIV game pads targetted for release (Feb 20) the around the same time SFIV is launched in North America (Feb 17). Link [here].

The RAP3 and VSHG is hard to find in local stores, but so far I've encountered the HORI Soul Calibur IV Arcade Stick, which is a rebranded Fighting Stick. The RAP3 is a higher end one, though:

A friend of mine has the SEGA Virtua Fighter High Grade (VFHG), which has been discontinued:

Basically the higher end sticks are worth every penny saved. I still have a regular HORI Fighting Stick since the PSone days, and with intensive usage the stick and buttons are still intact. I'm now using a HORI Tekken 4 PS2 stick via a USB converter (without input lag so far), and I'm eyeing on something else. Come Feb'09 it's gonna be a real exciting time for SF fans. It's gonna be big, and the arcade sticks scene should be saturated with plenty of choices - pre-build or custom-made sticks, and even pads.

Mike, you from Penang? I was at Queensbay Mall last month and I saw a HORI Fighting Stick 3 selling at one of the shops - but did not ask about the price. Maybe you'd like to scout out. And my goodness - one of the shops in Bukit Jambul were selling SEGA Megadrive systems/cartridges - the real deal! Nice. Too bad it's an overall crappy mall.

Kara, yes the HRAP3 became available on 2/12 and I felt I needed to buy it. I'm not waiting to get the SA edition as the HORI buttons are good enough and can be replaced with 30mm Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons (screw-in / snap-in ones). For good reading I'd suggest going here. You know those Astro City arcade machines you see at the local arcades here e.g. Holiday Planet? I found out they're Seimitsu. Hope my friend still has contacts with those arcade technicians.

I'll go for akihabarashop.jp, since I read other sites get it from there too and this eliminates the middle-man and stock should be more guaranteed compared to others. My friend mentioned there's a Hong Kong-based shop too but I'll get the contact another day.

Did you purchase SFHD with that account? PSN games and DLC (DownLoadable Content) are tagged to your PSN ID and this ID cannot be changed. You can change the registered email though.

But you can change the name or create a new log-on ID on your machine, and share this game up to 5 such IDs. The nominated name will be reflected below your life bar in SFHD. Try something like daigo_uemehara, John Choi, Alex Valle, muteki_guile, etc

Still, need to give him credit for being able to recycle his moves and still beat the crap out of people.

I think RM380 for the HRAP3 is a reasonable deal, compared with what other major fighting game communities are paying for - and what they do to upgrade/mod them. It's really an outstanding stick though not the best, e.g. compared to fully modded/custom Sanwa and/or Seimitsu parts. Unless you replace the buttons with these, you are already getting a tournament-grade stick. You have to feel it in person to know how good it is.

I'm still on the borderline to go for a custom Seimitsu, or pre-order the official Madcatz SFIV Fight Stick Tournament Edition. Is costs US$150 - add another US$50-100 for courier shipping and you get the idea how much top tier gear is worth. The 2 HORI sticks I still own hasn't died on me (stick & buttons) even once. Previous 3rd-party clones all exhausted within days/weeks while playing Marvel vs Capcom 2

Yes it is true that others have gotten the HRAP3 for around the RM300-RM350 range. But to my own understanding this price was back in early 2008. The game shops are aware of the fighting games out now (and in future) for the PS3 - SFHD, Battle Fantasia, Tekken DR, SFIV, Blaz Blue, Tekken 6 to name a few, hence the price hike. It even went through a US$10 price hike recently due to demand.

Please correct me if I am inaccurate about the pricing now and do share more details to the benefit of all forumers e.g. which thread/post they reported their purchase and which shop they went to. I am very very tempted to get one for myself as SFIV draws near - and I think I've bought too many BDs/games for Christmas already

I wonder if Streamyx's link to oversea servers are now fully fixed. Last night's lag was the last straw. Previously I had no issues on wi-fi, but now I have now fully switched to a WIRED connection. Tested some games this morning and it was smoother. I would suggest those on wireless to do the same, if convenient.

About the netlag/disconnects:

1) Just found out, the game will lag more if you use Vega or select any character's colour with the START button (WTF!)

2) After both players select their characters and after the vs. screen, if the disconnection happens - don't bother reconnecting. Exit the game, get a re-invite or create a new room - and it will usually work (for me)


On the other hand, just pre-ordered SFIV: Collector's Edition from Play-Asia for a total of US$104.70.

The product itself is $99.90 and I added a Devil May Cry Dart wing (it's called a flight) for $0.90 to ensure shipping is >$100. With this I applied a PA coupon for '$12 off $100' and the total got reduced to $88.80. Why would I choose a freakin' dart flight over some juicy delicious candy which I can actually fill up my stomach? Because of this freakin' candy, the entire shipment would not be possible with Fedex ($15.90), which is cheaper than EMS or UPS ($19.90, $18.90). Fedex will NOT appear as an option if you select any candy - I think it might have to do with the extra size

The CE (R1) is actually at $79.99 SRP. If pre-ordered from GameStop, you can get the Ryu headband and shout SHORYUKEN everytime you execute the move. This bonus applies to the standard version too, at $59.99. But till date GameStop still don't ship to Malaysia but it can be remedied with spending a bit more on US shopper concierge services. Not practical.

Play-Asia is selling the CE (R1) for $99.99, and to Fedex 1.16kg it will take $15.90. So in total (as per my previous post) by applying the coupon code and buying a useless $0.90 item, the total cost amounts to $104.70, or RM371 - provided the Ringgit holds strong till Feb 17 when it ships and my CC gets charged.

Amazon sells at SRP like GameStop too, but again don't ship games directly to Malaysia. To rely on a freight-forwarding carrier, the real weight of 1.16kg it may cost S$37.66 (technically), but in actual fact it may be more as the volumetric weight (meaning, the weight based on the cardboard box's dimension) may be higher e.g. for 1.6kg = S$43. Freight-forwarding will always take the highest weight (volumetric or actual product). So the total we may have to spend would escalate to >RM380. You also risk customs deflowering your package or something worse involving an over-enthusiastic paper blade cut, or having Ryu replaced with a Power Ranger toy.

PA would be an ideal choice for people looking for the CE, and furthermore, they are closer to us (Hong Kong) than the US - in case any returns need to be made. I ordered the HORI Real Arcade Pro 3 on 3/12 11pm and it arrived via UPS the following day 2pm. As long it's below the RM500 cap (including shipping) it's fine - more often than not. Both the box and stick was in pristine condition. If you choose EMS, handling may be worse as Pos Laju will be applied. I'm not sure why EMS costs more than Fedex for this order, perhaps due to a better corporate rate or solely packaging dimensions?

One more thing, the standard version at PA (R3) costs $59.90 (Amazon retails the R1 at $56.90), and it comes with a bonus DVD [link]. Reported contents at this SRK [link] states that it will include the Japanese standard-def version of the SFIV anime (but possibly without English subs). CE's version remains in HD).

I chose PA as I wanted the game ASAP, and has less hassle to ship it over. Looking at how the local retailers set their price on the GTAIV, WWE 2009, Saint's Row 2, Resistance 2 and Fallout 3 Collector's Editions - I'd stay far far away. To my knowledge, the CE is R1-only so any stock you see locally should be a grey-import and not taken directly from Sony Malaysia <- Sony Hong Kong.

For those on the borderline over which version to get, do understand the franchise's milestones and its positioning in the fighting game world. SSF2T is a 16yr-old game played till today ago and had a HD revitalization, 3rd Strike is still popular, and both has huge communities in Japan and the US. It had good and much equally-played Alpha/Zero games as well. SFIV is looking out to be a good successor indeed [Game of the Year in Japan's Arcadia Award 2008 - the Oscars of Arcade games].

Furthermore, the CE package includes the game, Ryu figurine (XBOX360 gets the Crimson Viper one), SFIV-related 65min full-feature anime (Ties That Bind) on Blu-Ray (360 gets a game-disc outputting at 720p), mini Prima strategy guide, CD soundtrack, and 5 downloadable costumes. I'd like to definitely have all of this with my copy.

..which brings about the topic of the HORI Real Arcade Pro 3. Contact me if you need to purchase one, but bear in mind price is firm. If anyone of you guys can get it lesser than RM350, good for you and don't forget to share it here to the benefit of others. If it weren't for my excessive gaming/Blu-Ray indulgence last Christmas I'd get one for myself as it's cheaper than shipping with Play-Asia, and you can inspect it before buying. Still using my trusty commercial Tekken 4 stick (octagonal gate).

There are no stupid questions, feel free to ask anything here but do take time to read previous threads/posts in this forum. It's only available on the US PSN network for now. Once EU launches, AU will have it too. But I heard that may take a while longer due to them using the PAL system (I forgot the source of this news but it sounds logical). As for Japan, I'm not sure when they'll get it but when they do, so will the HK/SG PSNs. Everyone here bought it via US PSN credits (available on eBay) or Entropay. Or you can ask around for anyone who'd like to share the game (licensed up to 5 PS3 IDs per purchase). As for me, I used my Malaysian American Express card (no hiccups, just that the exchange rate is slightly higher than VS or MC @ +1 to +1.5 %).

Testing waters; is anyone interested in frame data for SFIV? Prima Games will be launching their official SFIV guide book containing movelists, frame data, strategy/tactics, character strengths/weaknesses, best match-ups, storylines/endings the same time as the game's launch in Feb 17. It will be similar to the Japanese Mook by Arcadia/Enterbrain. I'm looking for people to share shipping with, from Play-Asia.

Mike, need to give and take-lah. I'm going for the ultimate SFIV experience and looking how busy I am with my day job already I simply can't juggle playing too many console games and indulging in HD movies as a hobby. I do know the fine line between interest and obsession

So I've nearly concluded my decision to stick and focus to one main thing only - SFIV/HDR. Which means a garage sale may be in the works, which MAY include a number of limited edition SteelBook BDs... fair trade for importing a Mad Catz FightStick
