POISON WARNING!

Read this in another forum:

"After all the hype online, I picked up one of the original T-Amps and did a listening test comparing it to a couple of $800 plus tube amps using several different speakers. I later had several friends and their wives give them a listen.

Bottom line- the T-Amp was chosen over the most expensive tube amp there, and just below the little 4W Almarro. In every case, with every speaker by every listener.

I don't think you can get better sound for your money.
"

Have a great weekend guys!

I got my TA2020 singing now. million thanks to Xtorm smile.gif

initial impression: not much different compared to my TA2024, not day and night difference.

If running 80% volume, it will clip at some music passages.
It might due to my power supply, using the same EI tranny setup as in my TA2024 (swap the amp circuit only)

Give it run in for sometime and 'see' how it goes.
*
thing i notice on my pc setup is better dynamic, wider stage.

hey guys!

my T-amp is just burning its 1st hr!

wow.....even 1st hr is soooo much better in soundstage and clarity compared to my old Onkyo....vocals are right in front of me and very lively, especially plucking of acoustic guitars, quick conclusion: my Tannoy M2s now singing like never before!!! this is ONLY its 1st hr of birth!

cant say too much as mine is ONLY ta2020 normal version n all using basic JP stuffs, heck if not then recycle parts found in store room...even the box is an aluminium cookie box only. very malu, 1st time doing DIY electronic stuffs... but very glad

of coz, without tips here especially from Jazzy, impossible for me to get it running at all hehe
here's a snapshot of my T-amp

for ta2024 background music and all is great in the car, abt being thin, yes its all in the tuning.

ta2024 might not be loud enough for some, ta2020 is pretty loud, but aeroplane noise is an issue.

ofcos if you aspect head banging loud then look else where...biggrin.gif

i think most of them have mkIII ready by now smile.gif

yes a tt would be nice, goto arrange my time.

abt alternator noise using ta2020 in the car, my friend wira got a pretty noisy alternator, even the cd player was suffering aeroplane noise, found an old noise suppressor for the supply of ta2020 and cd player, noise all gone! the circuit is pretty simple, a transformer and 1 capacitor, not sure abt the trans value, cap is rated 2200uf 16v.

i suppose the trans is rated 1:1 high resistance?

i did notice ta2020 sounded brighther, MKIII is not as bright due to the different output coil use

Because of the edgy high and mid, I buy a pair Wima 2.2uf to replace the input cap. First impression is much better and smoother. Jheena Lodwick is really singing. I think you can consider this if you found the vocal is very edgy not to your liking.
Who got Mundorf to change and let us know the result.
*
i got 1 pair ngam ngam using it on my ta2024 biggrin.gif but mayb due to my speaker, it felt kinda laid back

QUOTE(jazzy939 @ Mar 4 2010, 09:07 PM)
Caps need a few 'good hours' to break in..
I go agree about the midband being 'edgy'... maybe its not the input caps? hmm.gif
*
how long till the ta2024 really sing?

Jazzy, maybe a full mod 2020 will unleash it's full potential. I saw some good review of vocal of this chip.
Xtorm, you have equipment list of 2020 board?
*
ill search it out later smile.gif

my friend called me just now and say "after impressing his uncle who owns quite a few branded stuff in car audio, the ta2020 in his car decided to mute its left channel...."hahaha

weird enough, plug it out test it on meanwell, well...all go..put it back its singing again sweat.gif

ok when i test it out on my system, i was surprise....really surprise cos the harshness isnt there anymore....sounded abit laid back to me, his amp was from the 1st ta2020 batch, i think it clock alot of hours edi cos he is a salesman who is always in his car listening to the radio...

so guys...keep the hopes up!! biggrin.gif

yea...lots of variaties, still i have no idea how they make it wihtout input caps, wihtout the caps it will sound really dynamic, big...

if u wana make it sound more analog, some goodcap will help

anyway, i order a tube buffer pre-amp this round, it will cost roughly rm135 without tube, 12au7, will test it out n see

as for the tp2050, i sitll got no idea where my volume n input should go...control?

Xtorm, I thought I gave you the TC2000/TP2050 application notes in pdf? I attach again below. If you look at the application notes, the audio inputs should go to pins 23 and 28 of the TC2000 controller chip. And since there are already soldered to the tracks you need to find the tracks to those pins.[attachmentid=1537298]
