My dad is infected with flu 2-3 months ago. Surprisingly,he still haven't recovered. Back then,he caught cold and my family members and i thought it's nothing serious. However, things are worsen now.

At first my dad took some herbal medicine,as recommended by traditional chinese doctors. Unfortunately, things does not turn better. The herbal medicine seemed to have reverse effect on him, causing my dad to sneeze a lot in the middle of the night and water (liquid) filled his nose, thus making him suffered from insomnia. Worst still, whenever he sneezes non-stop,his eyes turn red instantly and tears flowing down his check. (Not that he cries, but caused by the flu disease)

When we realized he wasn't getting any better,we decided to consult specialists. We eventually went to Ipoh Specialist Centre. The doctor in-charge told my dad he was infected with some kind of virus, gave him some prescribed medicine and told my dad to go for check-up every fortnight. My dad did exactly what the doctor said but to no avail. If the problem persists, the doctor recommend my dad to undergo nose surgery.Looks like the operation is a must now.

Money flows but problem remains. The best way for my dad is to go under the knife but considering my dad's age,i for one, wouldn't want him to do so. If any of you had experienced similar situation, please give me some suggestions to solve the above problem. By the way, anyone knows who is the best nose specialist around? Useful advice and suggestions are very much appreciated.

then i took spirulina and my condition improved.

i also consulted an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist at Pantai Hospital back then and all he gave me was a nasal spray
(which could be so conveniently bought from pharmacies) smile.gif

Hi TS, I dont have experience in this but, what will I suggest is to get second opinion (or more) from other doctor (specialist).

3 - 4 months ago, I accompanied my gf to look for solutions to her lonnngggg problem she had - serious constipation. We went to quite no. of specialist center. To cut thing short, the reason we went for more than 1 specialist center is because we would like listen to 2nd opinion especially when it is a serious case. True enough, is worth for us because we ended up no need to go for surgery and yet is solve the problem.

Good luck.

Hi poppy,
do you happen to know the diagnosis for your dad?
Because it's kinda confusing..
1st you say it's "flu" then "virus" then surgery....
care to give us some more details?

and, by the way,
what is your question?
to ask for nose specialist or how to cure nose infection?

my sinus problem was quite bad.

my nostrils would be blocked almost all the time. i had to breathe through my mouth.

i had constant headaches especially at the area right between the eyebrows.

i used to wake up feeling very dizzy every once in a while. i cannot even stand when that sorta dizziness strikes.

sometimes, i get terrible headaches which make me feel like my head's gonna explode.

however, now i'm feeling much better. remember, don't ever try suck the mucus back into your nose. blow the mucus out. sucking the mucus back into your nose frequently would result in headaches and promote sinus problems just like what i used to have.

p/s: a nasal spray clears any blockage in your nostrils thus allowing you to breathe better

spirulina, which is also known as "lang zhou" is definitely not expensive.
i wouldn't say that it's cheap either but it surely is affordable.

there's this guy selling spirulina products at the garage sales.
good prices for the products he sells.

other than the nasal spray, i did take some doctor-prescribed pills for my problem too (just remembered).
after that, i started taking spirulina.

however, although the long term use of nasal spray is bad for health, it provided me with instant clearance of the nostril-blockage.

for those with sinus, Spirulina is highly recommended.

my aunt and dad had sinus problems too but thanks to spirulina, they're now ok. rclxms.gif

i've stopped taking that product for a few years now and yet, my sinus problem has not returned.
i still get a headache or two every once in a while but i'm much better now compared to last time. flex.gif

oh btw, i've no links with the spirulina company or anyone selling em haha biggrin.gif

I would definitely get a 2nd opinion from another doctor. Going for surgery is a big deal and should be a last resort. Perhaps another doctor has a different opinion or can suggest another cure.

for me...
i'll think more broadly...
has your father has this problems last time?

if not, a suddenly chronic disease like this trigger me something else...
most of these problems are usually self limiting and recover by it own with time...wont last 2-3 months.

seriously, brought your father to general medicine clinic in Hospital and have a thorough body checkup.
just to rule out any causes which may cause immunocompromised...
which immuno compromised patients actually presents as ...prolong flu, diarhoea, chronic cough etc.

how old is your father anyway?

Did your father do any allergen test? It can be a cause of the sinusitis.

I do occasionally have sinusitis eversince I moved into an apartment. I can't stand staying in the room with my roommate since the room and her always makes me sneeze and allergy until I had to limit my time in the room. Then whenever I accidentally irritate my nose, the symptoms comes like haywire. I try to clean the room and try to air in the room whenever she was in it. But it works when she was out anyway.

Where do you live? If you live in a city, maybe a change of air is good for your dad. Is your father fitness level is optimum? Try to make him move or take a walk around the garden. Older people are susceptible to infections if he remains dormant all day.

Your father should conduct a lab test to check if he got a bacteria-derived sinusitis. Anti-viral won't work against bacteria. If you had your dad's lab report from hospital visits. It will give me a bit clue of whats happen (haha.. btw, I am biomed student, basically I was studying pathology and microbiology now, so my memory is a bit fresh)

Sometimes, surgical procedure won't guarantee your father to have no flu-symptoms. I strongly abhor it. Specialist doctors usually offer it to gain money. Its true nowadays... ok.. my sis is also a doctor, but do I have to defend her senior's profession? nope...

Some sinusitis are inherited but if it come from 3-4 weeks, I think there's something in the house that he can't tolerate. Allergy symptoms can appear like a fever, so you better check it out.

ok... this is important, did your dad's nasal symptoms comes with a lung pain or feels uncomfortable?

Hi aoibhealFae,really appreciate your lengthy + useful advice. It took me a while to understand what you wrote.Haha..

I don't think the surrounding environment was the culprit, mind you,my mom is a super hygiene-conscious lady.I am not from KL,though i am staying here to study.Back in my hometown,it is a very small town and you will get plenty of fresh air over there. My parents are practising 'Xiang Gong' in a Buddhist Association, three times a week if i am not mistaken.Other than that,my dad never go for any other exercises.

As for the lab report,he has one but even though i look at the report,i don't think i can understand (Haha..Btw,i am a finance student). According to my dad,the doctor just told my dad his nose is infected with virus. Other than his nose,i am glad that the nasal problem didn't cost him any pain in any part of his body. The specialist suggested to my dad if his problem persist, then it's best to undergo the knife.I don't think they offer it for the sake of money.

As for now,my dad is taking spirulina and he is starting to feel the effect of it. It is too early to tell but hopefully spirulina can help him to overcome his nasal/sinus problem.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions smile.gif
