QUOTE(Chinchillas @ Nov 21 2008, 10:52 PM) Thanks.Got it after Bubba entered his "mealies zone" about 6-7 mealworms later.... With him, we have to be careful cos he don't like loud noises & he scares easily... Very sensitive to sudden movements & noises but he's improving slowly.... Not gonna give up till he can join the rest of my notorious "monsters" |

QUOTE(rozitahalim @ Nov 24 2008, 03:26 PM) sorry guys should this question be a repeated one. i don't think anyone here has ever brought their suggies for jabs as suggies are kept mostly indoors & don't roam/walk on ground (tanah) so they don't need those jabs.do we need to bring our suggies for jabs like what we do to our dogs n cats??? the 1st n 2nd mthly jab, then the yearly jabs after that??? tq plus the smallest needle will still be too big for them & will hurt them alot. just keep their cage & the areas around them clean & do try to give them bee pollen (found in HPW) as it increases their immune system. hun once told me that a drop of cod liver oil in their food once a week will make their coat shinny & smooth. |

Hi Anna...
Firstly, welcome Charlie is still small (young) so he tends to be hungry often. I suggest you let him decide how much he wants to eat. Give him a teaspoon of BML (smoothie) u got from petshack & a teaspoon of fruits whenever you see him up from sleep & remove it once he's done eating. Mealworms are good source of protein but not too much as he is still a baby. Usually for joeys not more than 5 mealies & adults not more than 10. Should you decide to give more as some gliders do tend to love it more, you will have to add more calcium to balance the calcium : phosphorus in their diet. I mite be "berat sebelah" but whatever petshack advise is for the best for gliders as they are genuine & honest people. Oh ya, as for not seeing Charlie drinking water, don't worry too much as he will get his liquid from the smoothie & fruits. But do monitor as he may get dehydrated. Added on December 2, 2008, 9:33 pmGuys... I just got this email from a friend.... Avoid Drinking Fresh Sugar Cane Juice Please take 2 mins to read this. This email was sent by a friend whose father is working with the Ministry of the Environment in S'pore. Health News - About Sugar Cane Drinks A friend whose father works for the government health inspection passed on his info. Their job is to inspect all hawkers, their cooked food, their store hygiene, etc. They found sugar cane juice has the highest content of bacteria among all food. In fact, it has exceeded the set limit. Hence, these guys had to find out why. They went round all sugar cane stores and watched the way the hawkers handled their sugar cane, wash their glasses, their entire procedure. But they couldn't find the problem. One day, they stayed till closing time and discovered some shocking facts! Whenever, the hawkers closed their stores, they would wash the floor with detergent.. As we know, the remaining sugar canes will be placed at the back of the store, vertically standing and as sugar canes are very porous, they tend to absorb whatever liquid around them. Besides the soapy water, the dirt on hawkers' boots, cats' urine, etc, will all be absorbed?? Now, whenever I eat at a hawker centre, I would warn all my friends about this and of course I stopped drinking my favorite sugar cane juice. A friend, who loved sugar cane juice, was pregnant. She was always drinking sugar cane juice. Anyway, one day she miscarried and the fetus was already like 6 or 7 months old, I think. When the doctors did an autopsy to find out why all of a sudden the fetus had died inside her, they found traces of some chemical substance, which was found in cat urine. Large traces of it. While it would not be able to harm adults, it was extremely toxic to babies, what more a fetus? So they tried to determine how this cat urine thing could have ended up in the fetus. This meant that it had to be digested by the mother, right? And the only logical conclusion they could come up with was that since these sugar cane juice stall holders just leave the canes lying around on the wet and dirty floor, it would not be impossible to think that stray cats could have peed on those sugar canes or near those sugar canes. So think carefully the next time you order that favorite sugar cane juice! Please pass this on to everyone you know in S'pore & M'sia. Let's take action to make this world a better & safer place for all of us & the generations to come... *so i guess no more fresh sugar cane for my babies till i can find somewhere that sells clean sugar cane. QUOTE(sueannajoe @ Dec 2 2008, 11:41 PM) Question on biting / gnawing / nibbling like what muchan said....It's been about 3 days with Charlie, and today he seems particularly active. I just fed him, and put him back in the cage. And started playing with him, he was inside his hammock peeking out, so I wiggled my fingers in front of him, and he started sniffing as usual, and reached out his tiny little marsupial hands trying to grab my fingers and starting to bite / gnaw / nibble on my fingers. It was more like playing around, you know like how cats do, kittens especially, how the try to catch our fingers and start nibbling on them. So yeah. He's doing that. At first, I thought he was being defensive, I kept on doing it, and yeah it seems that it was more of him being playful. Then, he also started nibbling on the cage, the hammock's cloth and strings. I tried putting in other objects, and he did the same thing as well. He did not make any crabbing sounds, he just seemed playful. This is normal is it not? I don't mind him doing that, but at 3 months its okay, how bout when he's older, bigger and stronger teeth? Or is it something I shouldn't really be worried about. For now it's super cute and fun though. Especially making him try to grab my fingers. He looks so darn silly and cute. At times he does bite a bit harder, but I do quickly withdraw my fingers, and I wiggle my fingers again, letting him grab and gnaw on my fingers once in a while. Should I let it be? Is he just being playful? I've been asking so many questions. One after another. I hope you guys don't mind. Thanks again. Anna nibbling & a lil gnawing is normal for gliders... charlie's just tasting u out do try to get apple sticks... they love it & u know where to get all ur suggies things |

QUOTE(ekazakaria @ Dec 3 2008, 06:34 PM) nothing change i guess..their meals i put at the same time every day...its just i put their bowl higher this time...maybe that the reason they eat less.. eka....but about timing...i'm not sure...if usually i play with them around 10pm..then suddenly i change to play with them around 12, coz lately i go back quite late from office lately..will that change their play & sleep pattern too? i found out that they will usually adapt to your timing.... that's what happens to my kids.... at one stage i was reading alot in my room with a reading light next to me till 5am everyday.... they were not so active cos they don't really like the light but once it's off..... after that they only woke up around 5am.... but now i guess they are so immune of my irregular timing that they make duh jer dont worry too much & just keep a close eye on them.... as long as they're eating a balance diet, they should be ok... Hi Paradox+-
It really depends on your gliders if they can share 1 wheel or not.... My boys (who are brothers) will share but occasionally will fight so I end up getting them individual wheel.... But once a while will still hear them squabble as both wants to be on the same wheel... They do behave like kids sometimes |

QUOTE(Gr3eN @ Feb 7 2009, 04:17 PM) Actually that is my last choice...i did e-mail the jabatan haiwan bt they never reply. Make phone call oso no people pick up. Once gt people pick up, they dun even knw what is sugar glider and lastly oso no answer for me. However, who gt better way pls pm me. #1-smuggling is breaking the law #2-what will happen to your suggies when/if u get caught? your suggies will definitely be confiscated by the customs. u end up paying a fine & will u be able to get your suggies back from the customs? #3-your suggies may not be able to stand the cabin pressure. why do some people feel uncomfortable in their ears during take off & landing? some babies or children will cry during that time. this is due to the change of pressure in the plane. |
