QUOTE(l30n91120 @ Jul 26 2011, 05:36 PM) Today I experience lousy customer service from Gamers Arena (Sg Wang Plaza). » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Last night I bought a Hobby Base display case (Large size) from Gamers Arena at RM85.00, but later found that the display case is too tall for my usage and decided to change for a medium size case during lunch time today.
Since the price for the medium size case is only RM48.00, I ask the shop assistant if I can exchange for the medium size display case together with other items that make up the total value of around RM85.00 (or if exceeding RM85.00 I willingly to pay the extra amount) as I expect them not to issue any cash refund of the amount differences (which I'm fine).
The shop assistant is friendly and helpful but apparently he has no decision making authority and need to call his boss. To my surprise, the "boss" named Paul rejected my request saying that it is their shop policy not to allow customer to exchange any item. The boss even questioned me for not measuring and get the correct size before I purchase (as if I enjoy coming back to the shop again for an exchange by wasting my time, effort and parking fee!)
It was never stated on their receipt that "no exchange/refund allowed" nor there is any signboard of reasonable size in their shop stating this policy. Finally, after some arguement the boss allowed me to exchange for the M size case but not allow for any refund of amount difference (RM37) or exchange other items of similar value.
Recently I have purchased some tool set from Tamiya Undergroundz in One Utama but later found that it is not suitable for my usage. I returned it the next day unused and they allow me to exchange for other items of similar value (or top up the amount if the item exchanged exceed the original value). The receipt actually clearly indicates "no exchange/refund allowed after goods sold", so I just try my luck and to my surprise they willingly accept my request with a smile. This is what we called "customer service".
What a lousy customer service from Gamers Arena and I definately will not buy anything from them ever again! Not to defend the shop or anything, but when buying such acrylic display cases, whether it's RM5 from Daiso or RM85 from a China company, the dimensions of the case are clearly stated on the box. Should you encounter any problems of fitting it in, it's entirely your fault and not the shop's. Whether the shop is nice enough to exchange it for you is entirely up to their discretion. They are under no legal obligation to do so, unless the dimensions are not revealed and there has been some misrepresentation on the seller's behalf.
Also, the clause "No exchange/refund allowed" on receipts carry no legal exemptions. It's not a valid clause as it's against consumer rights.
By the way, i think you seem to be having a lot of "bad luck" as you keep buying stuff that are unsuitable for your use. Be a smart consumer, and try to gather some information on the product before buying. It's less-hassle that way.

QUOTE(snakees @ Jul 27 2011, 05:13 PM) Not really, i think the seller should change the product for the customer if the product is still new and haven't been used before . Majority shop change the product but not refund. Majority win. Depends on how you define "new" and "haven't been used before". A chainsaw that has been taken out of the box but never been switched on would be considered as new but a box of toys that had the seal broken would no longer be new. And if l30n91120 had never used the display case before, how would he know that it's not suitable?
...one more thing, the majority doesn't always win.
QUOTE(l30n91120 @ Jul 27 2011, 07:43 PM) Doesn't matter i'm "bad luck" for keep buying products that i later found unsuitable to use or can i just simply change my mind? That's the equivalent of someone buying a Leader Class Bumblebee today, keeping it sealed and untouched, and exchanging it the day after just because he likes Leader Class Ironhide better now. If the product is not at fault, you're not eligible for an exchange, that's all i'm saying.
QUOTE(l30n91120 @ Jul 27 2011, 07:43 PM) But is it wrong for local shops (hobby/toy shops or any other shops) to benchmark themselves against major retailers to further improve their services to benefit our consumers instead of arguing with customers to save them the time & hassel to make an exchange?? (and i'm not even expecting a cash refund from them). Less hassle for us but it would be more hassle for them. Think of the procedures they had to go through, like how to key it in the computer records, how to notify the suppliers to cancel that order for one and make a new order for another, how to report the case to their superiors/owners, etc. Not to mention that you probably won't be the only one abusing this privilege, and God knows how many times humans change their minds!
QUOTE(kayubalak @ Jul 28 2011, 01:00 AM) i think what bro parody said earlier is u should try to make more informed purchases...do more research n more checking before ur purchase, to avoid having to put urself through the hassle of having to exchange it in the first place...in the case of ur wrong size of display case for example, you could have measured first with what u want to display and then check out the dimensions of display cases that are at the shop... don't u think u would have less "bad luck" if u did more research b4 making this purchases? This Doraemon understands me well. This post has been edited by Parody: Jul 28 2011, 02:06 AM
