a fender is not possible. you can only get a squire or an ibanez(entry level) with that budget. i'd suggest get an ibanez gax or if you can still find it, an ibanez gsz. these guitars are really excellent entry level guitars. plus, they have good resell value too (being ibanez). if my budge is rm800-900 for the electric guitar...

on the rock side, that depends on you. if you need single coil, go with a squire strat or tele. if you need humbuckers, then only go for the ibanez. however, i'd recommend to stay away from any tremolo guitar(strats or any cheap FR guitar). a beginner will only find it as a nuisance, get a fixed bridge.
with that kind of budget, you can also opt for copy guitars such SX and Craftman.
