This fishing achievement also gives you a rare pet. However unlike Mr Pincy, there is no item that gives you a 1/5 chance to get pet. if you catch the rat thats all it takes. It's a blue colored item and the rat is as big as a gnome !

Since i hit my Salty status, i've been fishing for this rat. You can fish for it in the under belly sewers in Dalaran city.

To get into Dalaran, ask someone in there to invite you to group and queue you for battlegrounds. Join the first bg and then leave, you will be teleported to Dalaran. Set your Hearth to the Inn in Dalaran, get the fligth path, and also do the crystal attunement in the center of the city.

To get to the sewer you either jump in the well, or go through the 2 small side entrances.

The catch rate for the giant sewer rat is the same as Mr Pinchy which is a 0.1 % drop rate which is 1000 casts before caught. Although some have been very lucky.

During my 17hours of fishing continously, i never caught one. But i observed 2 rats being caught. A horde fished 50 times and got it. My friend Sadcap fished for 1-2 hours before he got his. Both of the rats were gotten on the docks next to the underbelly inn.

Well when i achieved my STV competition achievement, that was when i decided to go all the way.

Anyway if your interested, i already posted the giant sewer rat picture on Els Anglin forum thread titled big sewer rat. I'll also post here once i get home from work :]

I am using Fishbuddy so i can keep track of the pecentage rate for drops. But i don't use the easy cast or auto lure because it's risky when your trying to fish for bind on pickup items.

I used to have fishing buddy? can't remember the exact name... but it wasn't working after WoW 2.0 patch, and developer discontinue it.

lots of fishing for me to do b4 i can start fishing for tat new pet. Since i have not gotten my WOTLK, now im trying to fish 1 of the rare fish for the achviements lol

Added on November 20, 2008, 9:56 amOk i finally caught my Giant Sewer Rat.

It took me 4 days of hardcore fishing.

First day i spent about 14 hours fishing.

Second day i spent 8 hours fishing.

Third day i spent about 2 hours fishing because of maintenance day on Tuesday.

Finally on the fourth day after fishing for 6 hours fishing i finally caught it. I was just about to give up and go to bed when i caught it !

So now i've completed all the fishing achievements =^-^=;



The things i have left are

1. Gaining the epic fishing rod by getting exalted reputation with Kalu'ak faction

2. Winning Master of Stranglethornvale a 2nd time to get Nat Pagle's rare fishing rod.

3. Getting the rare fish from the STV tournament to get eternium thread, and some of the other fishing equipment pieces ( i only have the boots so far ).

4. Getting the rare crocodile pets from the fishing daily from the npc in Terokkar forest from the quest he sends you to fish crocs from Stormwind canals.

5. Getting some of the fishing gear from the fishing daily from npc in Terokkar forest ( so far i know he has a rare fishing hat for a reward. Not sure if there is anything else ).

6. Rare and impossible to get the 1 ring and the newly improved the 2 ring.



So my priority right now is to get the rest of my fishing gear so i can get max fishing skill level. The Eternium thread and the epic/rare fishing rod are the most important pieces to achieve a very high fishing skill level.

Secondary would be the croc rare pets.

And lastly which i doubt i will bother to try is to get the two ring. the 1 ring sucks so not really worth it, but the two ring is epic and has good stats.




I hope to see more fishing rewards because fishing deserves to rewards that are related to gear as well as pets only obtainable by fishing. I already have a Magical Crawdad and a Giant Sewer Rat in my collection =^-^=;
