There is no point to bump old topics. There is such a thing called Search Button. I'd be keeping an eye on those who bump old topics and I've already put a few on the warning list. This is not Sales thread where you need to bump topics.

do u mean we are encourage to open new topics which is similar to older topics??....

bumping old topics if their problem is similar with the topic no harm rite??.. unless if bump for no reason can give warning lah...

Yes, that is precisely what sleepwalker meant.
Do not bump or revive old thread that adds no additional value.

pardon me mods, but is there a button in invision power board to delete all posts of a certain user? don't notice such function back then when i was a mod, but if there is that, good job on the lowyat team. heck back then it was way harder to moderate. sometimes i dont know why these people wanna bring up the old stuffs, it should be buried and dead. even if they started a new thread, i think its better that way. least he can justify his reasoning

Do you understand the meaning of BUMP? Did I say "NOT TO REPLY TO OLD TOPICS"?  You can reply to old topics.

To bump a topic is to post a reply with the purpose of pushing the topic to the top. That is used in the Sales threads to promote their sales. You can reply to old topics but don't just bump it for the sake of getting post counts. Topics like somebody's accident post on 1st Jan 2007 does not need to be bumped anymore. That's almost 2 years old.

Am I clear on this? Is everybody clear on this?

Yes there is such a function. I believe there a few users who were spamming for the sake of post count just got all their post nuked. Resets back to zero and all their time wasted to spam.

Have you read this?

Post count information

Edited: Due to large number of spammers and people admitting to posting in FnF just to increase post count, this feature has been disabled in FnF until further notice. This has yet to be updated in the POST COUNT INFO link above.

In my 12 years on the net, I have taken part in virtually
all kinds of forums on the net, almost all foreign ones
and very professional, but this is the first time that I have
heard of warnings being issued for merely "bumping" a thread.

Totally idiotic, and typical of the young moderators on local forums.

Reminds me of the behaviour of one young immature, arrogant female
moderator on one of the sub-forums here, and whom I had faxed
a complaint to my friends in Low Yat's top managment at that time.

I believe they removed her.

There was also the case of one particular psychology forum run by a
Canadian psychologist in his 50's last year, who had the same
disgusting attitude and issued similar warnings to me, culminating
with banning me from his forum and blocking my IP.

He even went to the point of ignoring and banning suicidal
depressived teenagers who had posted pleas for help on his
forum, cynically telling them "it was all in their mind".

Very shocking and unprecended for someone his age and
in his profession, which deals with people with serious
mental problems.

I reported him to the Canadian authorities governing his
profession, and he is currently under their investigation.

If found guilty of malpractice, he risks losing his license.

Just some question as it may be different for whatever forums.

Is it more efficient to just continue on old threads, minimizing new topics since there are existing old ones.

OR

Make new ones and just leave the old topics to age.

I mean, on the way the forum databases work or something, which is the preferred way, in this forum? Thank you for any response biggrin.gif
