1st put gems in your gear, pref stam dont need to gem for socket bonuses, esp for items with 2 or 3 sockets.
2nd priority is uncritable which is 490 defence without resilience. Resilience is not a good stat for prot pallies to get uncritable because defence gives u additional block, parry and dodge. 3rd enchants, KoT enchant for helm, Aldor/Scryer for shoulders, +40 stam and 12 agi for legs, stam to shield, stam to bracers, steelweave for cloak. For weapon, mongoose for avoidance, executioner for threat but not a big issue 4th with the new changes you no longer need spell power for prot, so u can safely change the shield with the other one from sso 5th this only applies to 70 but is a good base for u to tank instances from now til 80 |

Uncrittable first, stamina later.
Also, 20 strength for threat, executioner does nothing for pallies |

paladin tanking gear is now similar to warrior since patch 3.0.
as stated, there's no really an advise lol since wotlk is by tomorrow, you better spend your badges else they become useless because lvl 80 has new kind of badges and you can't spend your current badges for lvl 80 item.. |

with the new prot talents now, the preferred 1 handed weapon for pallies now may no longer be a spell one. They are looking for high dps 1 hander with prot specs. Suneater or Kings defender maybe?

I noticed when many mobs hit me, i gain back mana fast. or if i get alot of heals. But when neither happens, my mana regen goes down till i have none then i lose aggro cause i cannot spam spells to hold aggro.
There some situations when pally need another tank type to take over. For example in kara there is some mob that can drain mana .... very annoying for pally tank A sad story was the Maiden boss in Kara dropped the maiden glove i really needed to replace my current blue gloves. On 2 occasions the glove was given to a ret paladin and a arms warrior .... So any suggestions for which of my equipment to use which gem ? I want to get the def rating to 490 but not sure wut gem to use. Also what about enchantments ? I got like 3200 gold to blow :] Added on November 13, 2008, 12:01 amAnyway i have 88 heroic badges atm. I am looking to replace my current chest piece which is a sort of oddity because it's dps clearly, but it has a hp booster that would be neat for a tank, but unfortunately it has a 30 minute cool down which makes it ridiculously expensive for little to no usage for that ability .... Anyway when i hit 100 my first choice is to get Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate http://thottbot.com/i34945 Is it worth it ? Or should i get another tank chest piece for a tankadin ? Someone said Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian is much better then this, is that true ? QUOTE Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian is superior to this item. Protectorate's Breastplate gains 18 Sta 13 Str 34 Melee Hit 34 Ranged Hit 158 Armor 4 Defense 34 Spell Hit Chestguard of the Stoic Guardian gains 30 Dodge additional 2 Sockets ( in total there are 3 sockets compared to 1 socket which protectorate has. You could possible get much more defence and also dodge compared to protectore ) The Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate is not worth it's price. So which chest piece should i get ? protectorate or stoic ? Imho the str and stam on the shat is nice as you don't have to spend so much on gems. But the stoic guardian has more relevant stats such as dodge compared to hit rating which won't do the tank any good at all. There are 3 slots so you could get more stamina then the shat and still have better def rating and dodge ! But honestly the stoic looks uglier by far :/ This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Nov 13 2008, 12:31 AM |

Chestplate of Stoicism
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34939 Felsteel Gloves http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23517 Felsteel Helm http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23519 If you're running oom, use Blessing of Sanctuary (mana back when you dodge, block or parry) or rotate between Seal of Wisdom and SoV/SoR when you're OT and not getting hit. |

Anyway this are my current plans. Any advise to revise it ?
Helm: add some cheap stamina gems, not sure about the meta socket ... i am currently currently exalted with keepers of time so i have access to the head glyph, however i don't wish to commit so much gold to my current helm ... Shoulders: I am aldor however i am not yet exalted so i cannot use the inscriptions .... Anyway i am thinking of adding def rating gems and enchant. or does someone recommend something else ? Chest: I am going to spend 100 heroic badges to get the Shattrath Protectorate's Breastplate since it has tons of strength and stamina, AND it has def rating to boot. Yes it misses 30 dodge which i really think is a damn shame considering it is 100badges compared to the stoic that costs 75 and has 3 slots and 30 dodge to boot !! Bracers: Add in def rating gem, and a 12 stamina enchant. Gloves: Don't really want to commit gold here since it can easily be replaced soon assuming i don't get screwed when iron maiden drops my gloves, and it doesn't get given to some dps class azzhole. Belt: Best belt till i can find something better in kara or other raids. It serves it's purpose and is relevant for tank item. Legs: My sun legs were my best ever purchase. I love them !!! nothing beat it !!!! Rings: I got relevant yet horrible rings. Yes their good for a pre kara, but i was wondering whether i could replace them with something better ? Trinkets: I got kaels commendation which i feel is the must have trinket for a serious tank. My other trinket can be switched for a better one but not sure what at the moment. Weapon: People said to get spell damage weapons but i don't agree. I rather stick to the def rating gear, which is why i like my current 1 hander. I added the adamantite weapon chain because it's cheap and easily available to me since i can make it as i am a lv 375 armor black smith. I don't plan to invest gold in a mongoose for it because wotlk is out tomorrow. To compensate for my lack of stamina, i am a lv 375 cook so i can make spicy crawdads which i can farm from terokkar forest lakes. Spicy crawdad gives me 30 stamina Summary: The weak points in my set are my helm, gloves, rings and 1 of my trinkets .... oh and my chestpiece .... as nice as it is, it really isn't a tank chest piece .... which is why hopefully tomorrow i can farm 12 more heroic badges to get the shattrah protectorate. If I were you, I'd save the gold because you can use gold in WotLK, but pretty much everything up to and including Sunwell loot gets replaced at 80, potentially in the first week depending how hardcore you are.
Not to mention gems and chants. Added on November 13, 2008, 12:53 amEr, with reference to gold, I meant. Obviously badges are just as useless/backburnered in WotLK, so go nuts there. This post has been edited by Falk: Nov 13 2008, 12:53 AM |

QUOTE(laksa88 @ Nov 13 2008, 12:48 AM) Chestplate of Stoicism Thx.http://www.wowhead.com/?item=34939 Felsteel Gloves http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23517 Felsteel Helm http://www.wowhead.com/?item=23519 If you're running oom, use Blessing of Sanctuary (mana back when you dodge, block or parry) or rotate between Seal of Wisdom and SoV/SoR when you're OT and not getting hit. For my tanking i do like this. Def aura, righteous buff, and set blessing of sanctuary. I usually leave on seal of righteouness and just spam judgement of wisdom continously. I prefer it when a secondary pally gives me retribution aura. Nice.
Ok i think ill get stoicism. I mistook it for the 75 badge one. it still looks uglier then the shat prot, but stat wise is very much superior for tank. Blame blizz for making good gear look ugly >-<; At least it's red and matches my pants :{ |

Icing do you think my gear is good enough for northrend instances ? or should i just respec back to retribution since it isn't as demanding as tank gear.
Also to level from lv 70 to 80, do you guys think i should stay protection for my main or should i respec to retribution first ? I don't think dual spec will be available at WOTLK launch as it probably will be released in a patch like how the cool stuff like achievements were added into the game. |

u need to get ur gem up. use +def gems and +stam try to use epic gems though
for enchant use +stam and +def if possible. u really dont need to stack on spell power no more. if u're running oom, do like i do....always cast on seal of wisdom then use sanctuary |

honestly , the first instance in northrend is probably designed for tank with green outland gears. its so freakin easy my party got bored on our second run and went to do quests. also, most quests in boorean tundra give ret gears so its prolly a good thing u spec to ret for quicker levelling.

Unfortunately i'm allergic to greens :{
I'll just do what i did when i was lv 60 pre bc epiced after a year absence. I'll just get to lv 80 with my epics and swap a bit with some blues with good stats. But skipping greens altogether Ok so Gems = defence rating. Enchants = stamina Got it This post has been edited by Moogle Stiltzkin: Nov 14 2008, 09:30 PM |

Never underestimate greens. Although I'm not sure whether it holds through for paladins on having a semi-green TPS set for trash mobs like what it does for warrior. Someone else can confirm? Mind you, that semi-green TPS set will make healers harder.
There's a danger to referring to blogs i.e. the writer may not correct whatever he has put up. I remember reading one for a very long time, thinking that he's correct. Then when he put up a post about not being able to identify why his healing wasn't so good for a hardcore raiding guild and couldn't find out why in the WWS, I can see why I like reading his blog. His writing style is witty and interesting but when he couldn't see why his healing is bad and I could (from raid experience and sharing with guildies in our own runs), it made me rethink WoW Blogs. Even WoWInsider.com may not always post the best info out there. You're better off with the forum stickies in EJ and Maintankadin but even then, everyone has their own theories. Some more correct than others. At the end of the day, if you tank well, you tank well. |
