I remember generating 6 - 7 breaches with 40 Battering Rams on a Lv 24 wall, but since everyone says that Catapults and Mortars can generate more breaches per round I'm starting to use it in my battles. Kappa is the most peaceful of all the servers. That's why it has the most 1mil+ players, and hosting the largest alliance of all the servers, eXa.
Some say spy is a bug. Even I never sent any spy I still able to get 1 breach from spy. XD
I usually use first 2 rounds for breaches, that's why I need defensive army during battle.
Here are the unproved stats for siege machine.
Battering Rams 10%
Catapults 20%
Mortars 30%

ram: 2 or 1 (i forgot already) cataput: 2.5 mortar:4
breaching per round = (breaching chance of siege unit) / town wall
so for 40 catapult to attack a lvl 20 town wall, it will possibly get roughly 5 breaching per round. 2.5/20*40 = 5. the breaching result is kinda accurate from low to 20 town wall. for higher town wall, u better bring in extra siege unit to boost the breaching chances.
spies working in breaching now. it works well when u send in several wave between 1st wave and 2nd wave.
