QUOTE(MTEnthusiast @ Jan 5 2009, 11:22 AM)
Last week a girl(look like China Girl) called me and say someone use my info to apply an AMBank card and swap some amount on it... look like a fraud, do I need to take any action only or just ignore it.

Hi,
U better be caution. This same case happen few months ago to someone which I read thru newspaper.
Did u provide ur info such as cc number or any confidential particular to them?
If u did so,I suggest u immediately inform ur cc issuer or bank, then straight away go to log on a police report.
Dun ever provide ur cc number, password or personal particulars to someone who call u and claim that they r ur bank or issuer. If they r really ur bank or issuer, sure they got all ur particulars/info.
Please bear in mind always!!!!!

Added on January 5, 2009, 1:57 pmSame case happen to me on early of year 2000.
It is my SCB Visa get fraud. Before the syndicate charge my SCB Visa at Bangkok for about 30k puchasing gold, someone did called me and claim that he is from SCB.
This guy are very professional,he can talk sweet and told u a lot of promotion about SCB. Until I did not notice that I already disclosed my CL to him.
After about 1-2 hours, the real SCB call me and comfirm with me did I charge my Visa cc at Bangkok for 3xxxxk amount.
Although after investigation,SCB dispute the fraud charging amount from my Visa cc account(took about 2 months), but the whole process I will never forget. It's a nightmare!!!!!

Thanks guys, a lot of good info here. That is why I bookmark also smile.gif

My case is really funny. I applied for Citibank Air Asia and all forms and docs were send out to agent as requested. The agent called back after received everything and offered me to also apply for Citibank Giant card.

Then I got a letter a couple of days back saying my application got rejected because insufficient docs were submitted.

Then the next day the agent call me up saying that only one card can be approved because my CIMB 14k is combined limit. Then why send letter saying rejected. Ah... so funny. So he ask me to choose Air Asia or Giant. I choose Air Asia.

Currently I have a few cards beside CIMB - Alliance Ikea (free coffee and shopping discount), Maybank Classic (online purchase), RHB Travelcard (fuel), UOB Platinum. I am applying to Citibank to see the service and perks of using this card. The problem with so many cards is your wallet gets so bulky. Either your back pocket or your side pocket will have a big lump.

If I leave certain cards home then I will miss on some points opportunity like last weekend where I went to Ikea and forgot to bring the card.

Thanks four support of this thread. At least you took the pains to read all the info unlike some ppl who come in here and ask to recommend best credit card. vmad.gif It is very annoying mad.gif

I think what happened is that the agent were trying to get you to apply for more than 1 card and more commission/sales target out of you. Citibank agents are well known for this, I kenna once and I screw up that guy big time once I report it to the CitiBank for fraudelent application.

Insufficient docs or not, it is not clear coz you did not mention specifically what you submitted. Mandatory ones are IC, income proof (if you don't have a card) or existing card. (More than 12 months but better if more than 18 months) If everything is OK then should be alright.

Well ... you are an existing cc user so you know best how to structure your cc spendings. In case you are unaware got SCB debit card which provides 7% rebates for all fuels till June 2009. Look @ the first page which shows cards that does not have additional fees when used overseas. Probably after rethinking, you'll realise that you have one too many cards but it is up to you to decide how you want to use your cc.

Yeah ... I agree too many cards makes your wallet bulky. I carry only 2 cards (2 different banks) most of the time.

Myself very sensitive on such issue(which I will inform my issuers no tele sales or promotional offer thru phone call).
If they want to inform or promote, just mail it to me.
Any of them still call me regarding tele sales or promotional offer,I will hang up the phone.

Call the bank (AMBank, provide them with your IC should be able to confirm whether you have cc with them) first and reconfirm. I assume you don't have an AMBank card and the card was fraudelent applied. If confirm then take action by making a police report.

I do the same thing as well. I'm not trying to be rude or anything like that but if anyone who call you and claims from the bank / Mastercard or VISA and then asks to verify your cc information is a sure Red Alert. I don't compromise to protect myself against identity theft.

Sorry telemarketeers. You just can't sell anything to me. whistling.gif

Just applied HLB plat cards today morning.
The banker service is excellent, I think they had changed their CS this coming few years. nod.gif
Hope their CS centre services are as well as their frontliner in branches. laugh.gif

2-3 weeks should be sufficient. But why so persistant with Citibank ? There are other cards which are better or equivalent to Citibank. And if you think only Citibank card is international, the agent who told you this only want to promote their product. HSBC CS is better than Citibank anytime of the day.
*
Err, actually I like Citibank bcz it seems easier to get a gold card.
For example, my fren had a Clear card for slightly more than 1 year, they oreli upgraded her card to Citibank gold card.
Her salary almost same as mine, but shit, I cant even get a classic Clear card doh.gif

Arg, just found out that my HSBC Amanah MPower Visa credit card has been approved. I told the sales girl I only want platinum but ended up getting the vanilla card.

Already called HSBC to cancel the card even though I haven't receive it. Will reject the POSLAJU if it ever comes.

Updated:
Btw, the whole application took around a month

I applied for platinum as well 3 weeks ago & the status still pending. The HSBC officer told me that if you applied for platinum they never give the vanilla card because the application form is different. Maybe she lying:( . Hopefully I know if my application is approved this week.

I've already called and told them that. Firstly i called HSBC and the CS told me to cancel the card after 6 months coz it's a new application.

After that I called HSBC Amanah and the CS said will cancel the card immediately and the cancellation department might call me up.

I do owned a HSBC gold cc with cl close to 20k. Nvm, will apply online next time when i feels like it tongue.gif
