You use HDMI for audio? Using amp for sound?

QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Nov 26 2008, 09:07 AM)
Tested, some mkv files. It seems like there are some files I played without sound. There's a message show at the begining "Audio Digital". Does this mean that I have to plug in optical to listen?
Your HDD is external 3.5"?

QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Nov 26 2008, 09:07 AM)
1 drawback I realise is when I switched off wd tv, it does not automatically switch off the hdd. I need to manual switch it off.

You never reply if you using amp for sound or tv/monitor. I'm guessing no amp, otherwise dts can be decoded.

QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Nov 26 2008, 10:02 AM)
Yes i use HDMI for both video and audio.
Some mkv files run with no prob, but some without sound and the msg shows "Audio: Digital 1".
I suspect that I need to connect optical for audio for these file types. Correct me if i am wrong.

I am using WD my book 500GB external hdd.

Looking at the pdf file, did you set the audio as DIGITAL or STEREO?

Also, if the sound is DTS, you need an amp/receiver to decode. Your plasma can only have sound for other than DTS now.

What home theater you referring to? Why not hdmi WDTV to hometheater to plasma (instead of WDTV to plasma to hometheater)?

QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Nov 27 2008, 10:04 AM)
I still have issues playing some mkv files. Some files still don't have sound at all.

My connection is as follows:

HDMI from WD tv to Plasma. Plasma audio out via rca cable to home theatre.

Is the connection considered not digital?

Does some mkv files required digital audio in order to have sound?

Looks like the WDTV cannot downsample DTS to stereo.

Maybe optical cable is your hope.

Great !!

Will he test with rips or full BD files? Can't wait for result.

Also would like to hear which usb device he's using. Worried now, seeing that some cannot work.

If optical cable solve your problem, you don't need HDMI sound anymore anyway

I think the difference is not the enclosure, but the type of HDD inside. Enclosure may provide steady voltage and cooling only.

The HDD has to have proper buffer and rpm. Maybe partition will help too.

For no sound problem, it's already mentioned before.

DTS can only be heard via AVR/amp with dts decoder or using optical cable.

It's something to do with licensing if DTS is to be downmixed to DD.

I'm assuming either your HT cannot decode DTS or you didn't set audio settings to digital.

QUOTE(DigitalTech @ Dec 1 2008, 02:55 PM)

No need HDMI to listen to DTS, just get any DTS amp with optical input, cost maybe less than RM1k.

QUOTE(beebee @ Dec 2 2008, 08:29 AM)
hi guys, is there any entry level with hdmi in/out which is not too expensive? Wanna fulkly utilise the WD TV with the dts decode.

I believe it's the NMT limitations or the codecs.
