I have an old Sharp Aquos 20" HDTV 1024x768 with no HDMI input but only component in. Can I use an HDMI-component adapter like the one selling on ebay to hook up the WDTV to my LCD? Any advice will be appreciated.

QUOTE(ar188 @ Jan 13 2009, 11:08 PM) you need a video transcoder (not cheap) to convert digital (DVI/HDMI) to component.. Thanks. That makes sense. Maybe i will just use composite for that tv.this kind of break out cable HDMI to Component+audio.. doubt it will work (usually it works if your Video card's HDMI supports this kind custom connection) but since its so cheap worth a try kua? Today, i hooked up a 1TB seagate HDD to the WDTV thru a docking station. I encountered some issues of blank screen. The audio would come on (hooked up to amp thru toslink) but no picture at all on the TV (thru HDMI). And the WDTV appears to hang and does not respond to the remote. If I switch off and turn it on again, and try playing back the same file, it would work (sometimes). I tried out many files, and it appears to randomly played some and not others. I have not had any issue with the previous WD 500GB HDD before. So my guess the issue is with the seagate HDD itself. I looked at the jumper settings and it had a jumper pin in it. The note says that with the jumper pin, the drive speed is 1.5GB/s and without it, it is 3GB/s. Does anyone use seagate HDD and is able to advice if i should remove the pin and it will help solve the issue. Thanks. |

Does anyone use seagate HDD and is able to advice if i should remove the pin and it will help solve the issue. Thanks. I think i found the solution to my problem. It wasn't really a blank screen, just that the video only comes on after about 30-40secs. The problem is that I had the media library set to off as my drive is full. I deleted some files and set the media library to on and the issue went away. So for those with large HDD, leave some space for the media library else you might face the same problem as i did. Hope this information will be helpful for someone else in the future. Thanks |

QUOTE(kepco @ Jan 15 2009, 10:08 PM) toh, so fast solve problem, must be a happy man now, how much empty space you leave for media library? bro kepco, when going to grab another 1TB from me... Very Happy... Almost couldn't sleep last nite. I left about 4GB space. Thats what the WDTV tells me how much space I need. As long as i have money to get another HDD, you'll hear from me. |

New firmware for the problematic Seagate HDD released. It seems to work. Good luck.

QUOTE(Maniac @ Apr 26 2009, 09:13 AM) now i need a feature request for my WDTV. bro....its not difficult to mute the TV. We need the WD engineers to work on other critical features..the ability to turn off sound transfer over HDMI as I am using HDMI for Video only while TOSLINK for all sound transfered to AVR. The annoying part now is, its its decode-able format, I will have to mute my TV in order just to enjoy only the sound from the AVR instead of the TV. |

QUOTE(zerorulez @ May 26 2009, 06:32 AM) i was wondering bout e-sata transfer rate for a while, was guessing it can go up to 70 Mbytes/s till i read ur post..just a little shy of the actual performance... all my Ext. Buffalos can max 30MB/s only on USB2, still quite fast for me... The maxtor Basic external HDD 1TB. I also use the Vantec Docking station. So I have an option of both external and internal HDD and will get whatever is cheaper. I got my Vantec from a lelong.com seller for $125. There are other cheaper models from the same seller.this vantech kinda interesting product.. too bad it can hold only 1 HDD at a time.. the problem is that u need a proper storage to keep ur xtra HDDs if u only have 1 dock... but still one to be considered. Thanx is it available at LYP? really bro, which model? |
