Hi ppl, I just got my WDTV last night. Wanted to ask if anyone knows how to disable the audio output via the HDMI and only output the audio via the composite red and white cables?? Reason is because I'm connecting the WDTV unit to my PC speakers for audio while HDMI for video.

Use the mute function on yr tv. Don't think there is possible to disable the audio on HDMI output.

I've just bought a L8 from China on Monday. It is about the size of Dreambox 500, overall the quality seems to looks better then any other RMVB player in the market. The original package does not come with a HDMI cable sad.gif The remote control is one of those cheapo type, but still far better then RMVB rc I have seen so far. If you don't read Chinese then it could be a little problem as the rc is in Chinese characters pritted on it.

As for picture and sound quality, overall it is quite good. In case you have not notice, this player can play 720P, 1080i and 1080P files. BUT the player only output 720P resolution to the tv! During the quick test, I've came across 1 of the mpeg file is not supported by the L8. And some of the mkv and avi files with 5.1 audio track does not have any sound. Same problem as my HDX900 prior to latest firmware update.

Considering L8 as a high end RMVB player, then you should be happy with the player.

Lelong selling RM459 (Firm) for L8 wor. ...

I reckon RM459 is consider OK as the package come with a HDMI cable. Even if you go to China and buy the player, you must take into the account of taxi fare and other expanses.

Bro,

Anyone owns a Thomsom L8? Can review? Comparable or supersede WDTV?
*
Thompson RMVB players are the better ones compare with other China brands. And RCA L8 (Thompson) is also a RMVB player. The reason I bought this L8 was because there are many chinese tv programs that I like to watch are only available in RMVB format. Not too bad for a Chinaman company trying to improve their products and competing with the rest HD media players.

I would suggest to consider L8 if you mainly download RMVB files. For HD movie playback, better get a HDMI v.13 NMT.

Bro,

On the HDMI 1.3 thing, do i need to have a HD TV with HDMI 1.3 port to use the HDMI 1.3 in the WDTV? Thanks.

I think you need an HT amp with HDMI v1.3 support for the 7.1 DTS-HD stuff. Otherwise you won't hear a thing on your tv tongue.gif

Any idea/suggestion on how should i store all my HD movies?
Should I buy the NAS that support raid ? the one can support 2 hardisks( $400+) or should I build a cheap pc using 6 SATAs motherboard and load windows server and use software raid? ( so it is scaleable)?

I myself got a 2bay Dlink NAS, 1 single bay HDD ecnlosed with network support and HDD docking station. The best way is docking station support esata.
