just updated the firmware
to me it seems like no surprise at all
or even worse in fact coz the latest firmware no longer supports external subtitles (which the movie and subtitle are two separate files bearing the same file name)
it will only support embedded subtitles
means have to go through the hassle of embedding the subtitles into the movies
what a big let down

another flaw is the support for FLAC
In the description it says that it'll support FLAC
I opened a movie which has FLAC
It does show the word 'Digital Audio' and not the word 'Unsupported Audio' like before
but it can't decode FLAC properly
All I heard was a very loud hissing sound

i don think WD will strip out ext sub support, it just doesnt make sense as this feqtures is requested by many pp.

any users who upgraded latest FW care to share?

I got mine for RM400 about a month ago. At the PC fair today, the cheapest was RM439! F**kery!

Huh..as long as same as filename will load up and of course u need to be in thumbnail mode for the video viewing area that's all.

This new release really makes WDTV even more compelling after the upgrade. Better interface especially with the list view and well supported 1080p 24fps mode.

Look like the value invested in WDTV continue increase. 

Not to forget the job well done by WD corp for constantly updating firmware. 

i've Mashima:A Life in Four Chapters criterion collection .iso file. it plays well n can even choose different audio/subtitles too. one thing i can't manage to do is going back to the movie's main menu. anyone can help?

the file Let.The.Right.One.In.LiMiTED.720p.BluRay.x264-SEPTiC can't play well under firmware 1.02.02, works in 1.02.03. has anyone watched this lovely flick? those who wanna swap classics, b&w, indie, giallo mkvs other than INYOURFACE type of flicks do PM me.

hi, just bought a unit myself. noticed the subs don't sync well. anyone else facing this?

Let me google it.  I thought WD Essential is 3.5" External and Elements is 2.5" .  I have bought a lot of 1TB WD Essential so if Element is the same thing @ cheaper price, then I might go for it.

Guys, just came back from Lowyat. Bought the WDTV for RM369, with stand, together with WD My Book Essential Edition 640GB for RM259 at Viewnet Hyperstore. Which located cross All IT Hypermarket. They have both with stand and without stand, so make sure u look at the box first before buying.

At other shops, they're selling it for RM399.

Havent setup everything yet. Both still wrapped in their boxes.

When I upgrade to WDTV_FW_1_02_06, after last reboot this what happen to my WDTV.


After power OFF and ON, back to normal.

I have mention before but cannot find my previous post. First time happen after upgrade to WDTV_FW_1_02_00. I skip WDTV_FW_1_02_03 because 06 already come out.

I am trying to play Madagascar 1080p MKV file but it seems pixelated during the playback. Can anybody tells me what is the problem? Do you guys encounter pixelated playing 1080p MKV about 8GB size?

I already updated to .06 firmware.

Never try it tho, but I've read somewhere they use this tool to extract subs.

Guys, found out in the avforum, the limitation of WDTV is ability to playback high ReFrame rate. Anything more than 6 RFs, it will caused pixelated. Maybe the safest is to download 720p MKV unless newer firmware is able to address this problem!!!!

This is seriously the limitation of the WDTV media player.

Having a high referenced frame will improve quality but slow up encoding. For typical content, a reference frame of 3 to 5 is recommended. For content with a lot of repetition (eg. animation), a reference frame of 8 to 10 can be used. If a large number of reference frames is selected, then the "Mixed References" options should also be selected to allow x264 greater control (see "Analysis Options" section).

this might be why some of those who were into anime might not like this box as much as others. Seems like anything with a higher than usual number of reference frames, and this thing has a hard time processing.
