what's the different in custom duty/tax if 1.your friend/family ship t-shirt to you from US or 2. you buy t-shirt online from US |

QUOTE(sCenery @ Jan 4 2014, 06:25 PM) You could use dutycalculator.com but they only provide 5 free calculation i was thinking who's the cuprit?I shipped a shaver from US using DHL and based on http://tariff.customs.gov.my/ code 8510 10 000 or anything that start from code 8510 for hair removing product, there's no duty fee only sales tax 10% need to be paid. When I received the package Monday from DHL on tax invoice I being charged 20% on duty fee and 10% sales tax. I check the code that they use for the shaver its 3926 90 990 (others), I clearly stated on the commercial invoice as Braun Shaver, called up DHL about this and they insist that I need to pay for that 20% duty fee. Clearly they put a wrong HS code for my item. And DHL rep said to I need to meet up with customs to get this solve. Does anyone claim any refund on duty fee from customs before? custom or the forwarder? because i order t-shirt from US. i check the code sales tax 10%. but Fedex charge me nearly 25% my shirt include shipping USD 81.00 @ RM267.00 my custom duty USD 20 @ RM66.00 any advise???? |

QUOTE(Judecat @ Jan 5 2014, 10:50 PM) Just to let you know that there's something called 'kos tambang dagangan' where they add approximately RM380 to the value of your item + shipping so your item's worth in custom's eye is around RM650+ not RM267 hence why you got taxed. Welcome to the world of courier and Malaysian custom. why is that happening???? not just sales tax 10%? the statement stated ST 10%, but somehow my value worth RM267 being jack up to RM650+ then x10% = RM65+ |

QUOTE(Judecat @ Jan 6 2014, 09:49 AM) The additional cost is applied to everything shipped using express courier: Fedex, DHL, etc. You can read about it here. walau eh...wtfffffAs you can see from that post, parcels from US has RM380 additional minimum charge. Basically you either don't ship anything taxable with express courier or you minimize it to RM120 for your item+shipping. It's ridiculous I know. Who will pay premium for shipping for a cheap item? means if i buy CD from US cost USD30 @ RM 99, then they will automatic add RM380 as minimum charge? become RM479 if under RM500 they wont charge ? like this 1 ar ? then if i buy USD200 @ RM660, they will charge ST10% @ RM66? or add RM380 ? it seems like you die either go left or right if my friend at US ship me new Iphone 5S how ? still need to tax? |

QUOTE(Judecat @ Jan 6 2014, 11:55 PM) You also have to add your shipping cost to the calculation so even if it's RM30 to ship via courier, your USD30 item will be taxed. For your USD200 item, it'll be RM660+RM380+shipping courier cost=total item cost x tax rate. then what's the point of RM500 limit? If I'm not wrong, importing phone has no tax but you've to pay and apply for SIRIM. might as well RM120 limit? since they gonna add in the RM380 no matter how ? but most case, US supplier provide free shipping, in the declaration forms stated shipping 0.00 cost. so ? add in RM380 again it's like mandatory |

QUOTE(Judecat @ Jan 7 2014, 09:07 AM) They only add in the additional cost if you ship via express courier, normal post is not affected. They also add less if your item is heavier than the minimum weight stated. so the keyword here is 1. use normal registered postage, shipping time 14 to 28days ? 2. purchase heavier weight than the minimum threshold? feels so risky buying so many things, coz later custom tax costing BOMB. die either way |

QUOTE(Judecat @ Jan 7 2014, 08:34 PM) Basically yes, you either use normal postage with higher rate of missing parcel and longer transit time or you risk getting taxed with express courier. Of course this is not a hard and fast rule. I guess in the custom's eyes is that if you can afford to pay for express courier, you can afford to pay tax yes, if we buy overseas they assume we rich.yes, i can pay the sales tax 10%, no issue. but not like top up total value with RM380 first. will take note, and buyer larger quantity next round. |

QUOTE(Calvin Seak @ Feb 24 2016, 12:44 PM) Dear all this is 1 thing that i always dont understand and accept Recently I bought a shoe from overseas and it came with free shipping What I dont understand was the customs assumed the shipping price and put rm380 as from the picture below... Can I argue with FEDEX and asked them to return my taxable amount? The shoes costs only at RM390 ![]() but what to do i think is the minimun freight charges formula, for them to calculate the total cost incurred ( assume no free shipping ) then taxable amount based on tax n gst but heck, you no need to pay for the "illusion" freight charges wat |
