Hi, wanna ask my item shipped from Fedex from US, and the shipping fees cost around usd 28, but why custom freight rate FRT was RM498.75?

Is this normal or what can I argue with them?

Boleh saya tahu kalau saya menang contest dari luar negara, adakah saya akan dikenakan cukai juga?
Kalau hadiahnya bernilai lebih dari $1000 USD, berapa cukai yang akan dikenakan?

I'm in the same boat as you. My shipping price was 25USD by Fed Ex but on the customs form it came up to RM498.75. How is this possible? Anyone know which number to call to ask about this?

I called Fedex and they said this is calculated by custom, this is minimum freight cost for them.

But I said, my items only cost RM422, but freight cost higher than my items, and anyway I can complain or argue with them? the customer service said will help me do a report to custom, but I think wont help much. But lucky my items don need import tax, just need to pay more gst...

Items price RM422
Freight cost USD31 = 132
total around RM554

but they count me as total RM 925.53 mad.gif

Thanks a lot. Have you paid for the tax? I thought we had to pay or I wouldn't get my item...but actually can we get the item first and then pay the tax later?

Just checkin this and it says headphones only 6% GST? If I recall correctly, headphones used to be 10% import tax. Can anyone who recently purchased headphones confirm this? (Item is > RM500)

I contacted the seller of my product and they shed some light onto the mysterious RM498.75 the customs list under the shipping fees. To recap, I bought a 40USD product with a 25USD shipping fee. That is definitely below RM500 and my item should not be taxed. However when I received my package, the Customs document listed my product as 40USD which if fine, but then listed the shipping cost as RM498.75. Which now puts my product above RM600 and I had to pay import tax of about RM187..which is ridiculous.

So what the seller said was that when they fill out import forms when shipping their products, they do not write down the shipping costs. According to them, most countries will only tax the item cost if the shipping cost is not listed. So this helps their customers save money on import tax. However...as usual, Malaysia is not like most countries. So when our Customs sees that there aren't any shipping fees listed, they will put in a value they think it costs to send the item here.

Moral of the story is...if this happens to you, don't be a sohai like me and pay the import tax on the spot. The seller told me that once you pay them it's quite impossible to get your money back. Instead, you'll need to get a Commercial Invoice form from your seller to submit to FedEx that shows the real shipping fees and they will recalculate for you. I was lucky that the seller was nice enough to refund the money to me. Hope this clears up some questions about the mysterious shipping costs.

Thanks for the update. I was unlucky, Fedex already paid for me...

I call several time to fedex regarding this issue, 1st they said will report for me and call back to me, but I din receive any call.
So I call them again, and the fedex senior said cant contact the guy processing my package so she give me his number, but cant call in, and I call again fedex, and the customer service said will remark and ask the guy call me before he do the clearance and pay the tax. But today morning, I already received email inform me done clearance and in shipping... I think they already the tax without contact with me, if really like this I have nothing can do, maybe make a complain and shall not use fedex service next time. mad.gif

I bought from Amazon, and use MyUs to send back my item, so I should contact MyUs also? ranting.gif

this happened to me twice,
from my exp, DHL said custom will ignore the real shipping fees even though seller has it in the invoice like my case and slapped on what they deem fit for the shipping cost which the case is 498.75 too

both time, my CIF value is totally under RM500.. ended need to pay RM150 duties and tax! but for the second time, i abandoned my shipment as the tax and duties is more than the CIF. really bangwall.gif

May i know whether by importing used/second hand motor vehicle spare part will be subjected to tax & duty.
If subjected to T&D what are the rate like?

Country of origin: Taiwan

Motor Vehicle Spare part such as:
Door panel
Dashboard
console meter
Alloy Rims
Radiator
Engine component

I have searched JKDM site but only manage to found HS code as 8703 22 290.
This is actually HS code for importing a complete vehicle and subject to engine capacity, i cant locate the HS code for Motor vehicle spare part.

Can some one assist me or answer me please.

Many Thanks

6% and then check the tariff code if it is taxable.. if it is, then check how much percentage.. take note percentage is not just the cost of the camera but the percentage of the total including shipping

Can anyone enlighten me on this? Does it meant that my item is detained by customs? I haven't received any call as at now, really clueless on how to check the status.
