so wat u do nowadays when they are really having diarrhea or show symptoms of illness if u dont want to bring them to vet? any vet who are experienced in treating GP??
*
The best way, research on internet to see how people threat GP for lice/diarrhea etc before going to vet, then ask the vet, what they are going to do for your GP. You can write down the medicine names and ask the vet about it too.

For lice, I request my vet for Ivermectin drops (to apply on the skin)instead of having it injected, coz for small guinea pigs, high dosage of the injection can kill them.

Most vet in Malaysia are not expert on small animals, but they do have the medicine that can cure them. So best to do own research before going to the vet. Still its good you had the heart to take your piggy to the vet, shows you are a good owner. Sorry on on your loss and and the best on your future GPs.

I visited like 5 different hypermarkets today lol.. and 3 of them was carrefour. Went to Daiso in the curve also.. yilek... no luck cry.gif If use pvc coated wire mesh around it can kah? sweat.gif

I kept hearing of the grids around KL but no luck in finding too, thats why end up buying from Singapore. You can use wire mesh, theres some people who have used it before, just that it doesnt look at nice as grids.

hey guys, i tried to make blanky for my piggies but seems like my piggies loves to pee n woo woo inside their sleeping place. so how aah? Should i give him sleeping blanky? And BTW, my chicken cage location is also got roof wan. and also near the car park and does not expose to the sun at all wan. if like that can be their house ma?
*
You can use fleece blanket, if its good fleece then the pee will go through it. So far those ppl that use fleece need to brush off the poo on it everyday, unless you have toilet trained them. Um chicken cage ar... if housing outdoor must make sure you cover the wire bottom with grid, or will hurt their feet, and make sure the area you put them is cooling enough in the afternoon, or they can die of heatstroke...and also safe from cats. Even if cats cannot reach the, but sit outside the cage and kacau it is very stressful for the little piggys.

After 9 months the pelvic bones start to fuse but how fast it fuses depends on the GP itself, If to be safe you can ready the emergency contact of your vet. GOod luck =)

I guess bcoz they r not allowed to ask for money, since it would become a sale and not an adoption. So they ask for food instead =/

If fur thinning with raised bumps can be fungus problem. Last time my GP have this problem when I first bought them. I cured it with the CocoNeem Melt from here http://www.gorgeousguineas.co.uk/p/categor...rvellous+Melts/

that time my friends from an international guinea pig forum highly recommended it for guinea pig skin problems and also help to get it for me. Really worked very well.

If want to identify is it fungus or not, can take to vet to check, they will put the hair under microscope and some UV light thing to check it.

Yea the skin will be bumpy like got pimples, and around it the hair is dropping more than usual. Then the skin start to peel a bit there as well, like very dry or flaky kind of skin.

I heard that recommended is once in 2 months, but for me I bathe mine every 3-4 weeks coz I have a long fur sheltie, and her fur gets dirty easily. I use conditioner on her so the fur wont be too dry tongue.gif

Male GP are ok to be alone. They might fight with other male if you introduce them when they are old, although still can be done. Females should have a friend though.

That day got take out mar... Then notice he din drink from the bottle wor.. So i put back the bowl lor...
So cham i see him.. drink non stop oh from the water bowl... he so notti..  sweat.gif

You try in this way...remove water bowl and leave water bottle in cage. Then after half a day check and see he drank or not, if not, then hold water bottle in your hand and squeeze it a bit, let a bit of water come out, while in front of the Guinea Pig. He will sure start to drink from the bottle since he is thristy. After that I think he will know how to drink himself from the bottle. Sometimes need to teach them how to use bottle, hehe.

I think its normal for GP to drop a lot of fur, as long as they are not sccratching a lot. Since yours scratch a lot maybe it has a skin problem?

Added on April 17, 2009, 10:40 amBy the way, not sure this is related or not, but I read that Hagen pellet is not that good for guinea pig due to some of the ingredients they use.
