Hi everyone.
I just got my GP last nite from a petshop. It was so cute but I dont have idea how to take care of her properly.
When i was at the petshop, Coco (i named my GP this) was so friendly to me, and when i got her home, she was so scared. But I it is normal (hopefully!)
Today she becomes more calm and even let me hold her. She even made sound (wieet wieet something like that) which I think it was good.
Now she's hiding behind the hay. Is it ok if i set her cage like this? i put some dry corn bedding with lots of hays. Am I doing right? hmm.gif
Any tunjuk ajar would be really appreciated. So new to petting a GP blush.gif

oh btw, can I play with it alot? I love to do that but scared maybe I will bother her much. And, how long would it take for her to totally become familiar with me?

thanks smile.gif

Cute GP! Tho u should have read about them first before purchasing.. But i guess now its too late~ nvm thumbup.gif cage setup is good but a little small imo.. since u put hay inside... dont need the hay rack.. but once she start eating them all need to restock.. also try to make her a hideout. GP's like to hide inside something when they are scared. I hope that tray is solid (to avoid bumblefeet) and high enuff to let the bedding stay inside ><

Yes you can play with her to let her bond with you. But not too much for the first few days. They get stressed easily. Also i notice like my GP's they get ressless after 15 mins holding them.. so put her back in the cage if she gets ressless. Give them floortime smile.gif they like to roam around exploring places. That is also their exercise, coz they dont require and wheel.. in fact they hate it smile.gif

Feed her fresh veggies daily.. also she will need alfalfa hay to grow ^^ Make sure there is always plenty of water for her to drink, they are heavy drinkers smile.gif Read up the front page of this thread. there is lots and lots of info ^^ Good luck!

hehe thanks for the advice biggrin.gif she's bonding with me just fine up until now. very happy with it! rclxms.gif

u can get good impartant information on how to take care of ur gp by reading the 1st page of this topic. we encourage all newbies to read it all (it might take some time, but it will answer most of your question) there is also links on some other sites dedicated to provide good info for GP owners. i hope this will help.

Coco is cute!! it is not a gud idea to put lots of hay like that n mixed with the bedding as u need to clean the cage regularly coz GP poo n pee alot (unless they are toilet train then you will only need to change the toilet bedding) ur gp is still small and it might not eat that much, and coco might pee n poo on the hay also, that will be a waste coz you have to remove the dirty hay away...

u can use processed recycled paper bedding (like Breeder Celect) or wood shavings (like Chipsi Classic) as beddings for the cage. i did read about corn bedding is not very suitable for GP...something about the smell and the absorbant level i think....forgot liao~

the small plastic container at the corner, izzit the pellet bowl? u should get a proper heavier (and deeper) bowl for the pellet, gp might turn the bowl upside down, sit over it or spill the pellet...

hope this helps abit happy.gif

alright, will do. btw how often should i clean the cage (throw away the hay n the corn bedding) ? the guy at the petstore said twice a month would good enough, but i've read somewhere we should clean it once a week. so i'm confused doh.gif and if my GP eat those hay that she peed on, would it harm her in any way? Sorry if i ask alot but thats what the first-timer father would do right. lol

i will follow your advice not to use corn bedding in the future. will try to use shaved pine as i read it doesnt harm GP (and its cheaper too! tongue.gif)

yep that one is pallet bowl. its metal btw. i think i'd stick to that one for a while. no budget liao to go out and find a nice bowl for Coco. Overspent already. hehe.

btw can i use normal rabbit pallet from those aquarium shop? currently i'm feeding coco with pellet i got from the same petshop i got Coco which is quite pricey for me

so hard to be a father and a student at the same time. blink.gif

since u guys been talking bout hagen pellets, i wanna ask something.

i'm using hagen pellets too for my GP. she was eating it alot. but since i've been handfeeding her carrots and fresh veggies, now i seldom see her jump into feeding bowl and eat the pellets. only when i put the fresh pellets, she will eat. not the old one. haih. should the pellet served fresh daily? how about the leftovers? should i throw out? :-s aiyo so rugi.

and one more thing. i'm using sun dried alfalfa for my GP. this is the same scenario also. she only eats the fresh one out of the plastic bag. and left those big big "dahan" of alfalfa behind. GP dont eat those big dried alfalfa dahan? only the small dried leafs (and the small dahan)?

i got my GP from pet lover center.

i dunno if its abby or peruvian but the hair is quite long. but at the petshop, its written as "abyssinian" for my GP, but the salesguy said mine is the same one as the peruvian (which they're selling those too), but just because mine is 3 month old and those peruvian they sell is 9 month old, my GPs hair is shorter. it will grow long like those peruvian they sell.

but i dunno. maybe he BS-ed me.

btw the peruvian there were really really cute and fluffy! biggrin.gif so if the salesguy was true then i cannot wait to see my GP grow to be like those! ^^

maybe scrappy sounds like "vege" lol. i always said "vege vege vege vege" before i gave scrappy coco her treat. now she remember and popcorn everytime i say that.

Did u try the big art supplies store? There is one at the Old Lim Kok Wing institute. You will need the bars >< coz sometimes they popcorn have possibilities to jump out. You can try to do one like finch, few pages back got pics. Its a big plastic container, open space but no cages surrounding it. The height of the plastic container seems ok.
*
the one i used is actually coroplast lol. just found out the name of the material one the web. before this i used to call them "plastic board" sweat.gif
if anyone interested to build one, u require 2 big coroplast board and 1 of the small one. the height i use is 7 1/2 inches so its high enough imo. smile.gif

Maybe finch likes to clean his cage.. or that pic he took was after he just cleaned his cage brows.gif  laugh.gif

My bugsy now 80% potty trained already.. Saphira.... sweat.gif still poo wherever she wants! doh.gif  doh.gif
*
haha thats like 5 minutes after i changed the bedding and all. my GPs can make their cage looks like warzone within couple of hours.. poo n pee here everywhere. still cant get them potty trained. sad.gif
for now im using fleece as the bedding.
