i guess vava's parent also small size, never c before her parents......
erm.....actually vava's trainer said she should be at this size cos she's toy type.....
so the trainer said have to control her diet not to overfeed her (it's important) and of cos not to let her hungry....cos he said many people overfeed their puppies so they'll grow from toy to miniature size.
i learn quite a lot from him though.... thumbup.gif

actually puppy should at least take 2 meals to 4meals. below 6mth old better feed 3-4meals.

Added on November 17, 2008, 8:31 pmi consulted vet b4, under feeding puppy their bone structure will not be healthy. and also their stomach will not be healthy as well. lotsa cons than pro. Do-reconsider if u were to control your puppy diet to make them stays small size.
*
ohh!!! actually i'd ask a lot of experience pet's keeper....cos at 1st i also feel like giving puppy eat only once a day is like torturing them...previously i gv vava eat 3 times per day until she's 4 months old (almost over weight)
so they told me suppose to gv them eat once or twice only per day....if over 2 meals is consider overfeed them unless they are sick or recovering from sickness then only u feed them 3 times per day (max. 3 times)....might not be healthy when they grow older....this is the infromation i gt.... tongue.gif

Added on November 17, 2008, 8:25 pmJoelle,
What brand are you feeding her? dry food?
*
haha biggrin.gif i don't mind my vava to be bigger size as long as she's healthy but i was told healthy meals should be once or twice per day.so i got test her before whether she's hungry or not after having only 1 meal per day for bout 1 week, well.....she really dun feel hungry......and now her shape gt back from plumpy body to a nice shape (still under well-maintained).
i give vava eat dry food > Hill's Science Plan / Hill's Prescription Diet.

found this - how much should a 7mth old toy poodle eat perday.
http://www.dogster.com/answers/question/ho..._eat_a_day-3321

Added on November 17, 2008, 10:53 pmand more info found
http://www.gillilandsmagnificentpoodles.com/id29.html
which says
Your new puppy should eat 3-4 times a day until the age of 6 months and then at the age of 6 months you can reduce to 2 times a day. For the small breed puppies you may want to continue with the frequent small meals throughout the day to help prevent hypoglycemia.

This info is good for new owner.
*
yayaya!!! that's what i'm thinking bout....new puppy should eat 3-4 times a day until the age of 6 months and then at the age of 6 months you can reduce to 2 times a day. that's vava situation now.... but when vava 7 months, she started to eat once a day...issit science plan not good? no wonder my vava dun like to eat. cos a lot vet recommend science plan. then what food u recommend for toy poodle?

i frequent Wow2 Meow2 for kibbles. No doubt Dr.Mel specialises in dentistry, he oso involves himself in other areas such as helping dogs to mate; the last i went there, he helped a 'real' toy poodle to be hamsup-ed by a super big toy poodle. He said the female screamed coz of the male's size. LOL...
There was one occasion where i did not like his impolite behaviour. i was enquiring something at the counter. He just took Milo from my hubby, checked his ears n teeth. I did not know what was his intention.
Perhaps he was trying to find fault with milo's condition. He did say milo's fur was too long at the eyes, covered his eyes liao bla bla bla...but i would appreciate if he asked for my permission first before checking on milo.

joelle.huey,
Maybe u can try to get books specially written on poodles. They have very comprehensive guidelines on how much to feed them at different ages. Seriously, u shud never thot of feeding only once before they reached one year. Just like humans, after some time of not having supper, we wont feel like eating late at night dy. It's a matter of habit...not becoz we r not hungry.
*
lolx......i oso at there when he helped a 'real' toy poodle to be hamsup-ed by a super big toy poodle. hahaha......wat a small-small world......

ooo......i think should search more details and information.....thanx for all daddy and mummy of poodles here.....really appreciate those info and advice.... thumbup.gif

Science Plan is one of the brand that sponsor one of the subject/course in the veterinary studies. They taught the students back in the University regarding pet's diet. Can you link this with the reason vet is saying Science Plan good?

Further more, Hills Diet (and others vet-diet) can only be purchased in vet, and they get about 50% profit margin off the vet diet. Have a thought about it smile.gif

Vet is doctor, a doctor is familiar in health and medicine. They are not nutritionist. However, I am not saying all vet do not know about the nutrition that a dogs need, and how to determine a good diet for dog. Vets works in clinic, not petshop, they do not get to know about the other brands out there.

Just read the packaging behind the label of the dog food, then feed according to what it writes there. Divide into 2 or 3 meals.

Actually not feed how many meals, is how much you feed perday.. perhaps you are feeding A LOT in one meal perday.. read the guideline at the dog food label, and adjust from there. Divide into 2-3meal portions so your dog won't feel hungry, or bloated in one meal.

After about a week, you will see if your dog is too fat or too thin.. then adjust by adding or decreasing the quantity of food, not cutting down the meal time.

I just edited a bit of my previous post, smile.gif

To choose dog kibble, read the ingredient list, rules of thumb, named-meat meal must be in the first three in the ingredient list. For example, chicken meal, lamb meal, salmon meal, turkey meal, duck meal.. bla bla bla.. never buy any food start with poultry meal (cause you don't know what is poultry). And do not take Chicken as Chicken Meal. Its different. If Chicken (80% of them is water) is first ingredient and no chicken meal in the first five ingredient list, put back to the shelf too.

Never buy food that starts with poor filler and grain like corn, soy or animal by products. If you read any kibbles contains by products, put back to the shelf. That's the basic.

Added on November 18, 2008, 12:42 amOh my, I have been repeated this topic a lot of times.. LOL
