Ex-WoW Players Return (PC)

Blizzard's Mike Morhaime notes previous WoW subscribers are returning to Azeroth.
By GameSpy Staff | Nov. 6, 2008

During Activision Blizzard's quarter end earnings call, Blizzard's CEO Mike Morhaime revealed that ex-World of Warcraft subscribers are flocking back to the incredibly popular MMORPG. In a year that saw two major competitors launch MMOs, Morhaime reported the following:

"To date, 68% of the players who listed Age of Conan as their reason for cancellation and 46% of the players who listed Warhammer as their reason for cancellation have reactivated their subscriptions to World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft also managed to grow its subscribership, despite the Olympics and the summer vacation period.

At the end of the quarter, World of Warcraft had 1.5 million more subscribers than during the same time last year. As a result, our non-GAAP net revenue was up 19% and our operating income was up 11% compared to last September."

Morhaime also noted the success of the company's recent fan-based convention, BlizzCon and cited that it received extremely positive regarding Diablo III and StarCraft II along with the nearly here World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.
