Hi,

I have a modded JP Spec Wii which i intend to bring to UK for 2 weeks while i'm there.

I read somewhere that the TV there might be incompatible (PAL/NTSC)?

How can i make sure that i dont waste my effort of bringing it over to UK?

thanks!

Eheh, if you think about it, Malaysia also uses PAL and it's compatible? (that's why I always making noise about Sony selling Japanese Playstation in a PAL country, btw). But of course, most TV sets sold in Malaysia either have NTSC-playback support or World Multi built in.

If you want to carry your JP spec Wii to UK, you might to do three things:
1. Buy a TV that supports NTSC when you reach the UK (I've heard from friends that they do have them in the UK, but harder to find, and it's easier to just bring in a TV from Malaysia),
2. Buy a UK Wii adapter, unless you already have a 220v adapter or a step-down transformer- if you already use either one of those, just take the device into the UK and plug it in. Most 230v devices can tolerate 240v power, and
3. Buy a RCA-to-SCART connector. Should be common and easy to get when you enter the UK.

Last thing, if you own a umodded Japanese Wii, you will have problems getting games, since Europe only sell PAL games and you have to import your NTSC games somehow (import or specialty stores?).
Edit: You mentioned Modded Wii... Should be same limitations you face in Malaysia lorr... Not sure about using ori PAL games that have system update tho, maybe can brick your Wii rclxub.gif Also, I dunno legality of modchip in UK.

TS will be there for 2 weeks only mah... not long term

just check the TV you'll be using there supports NTSC or not, that's all

but most of the newer TVs nowadays should be able to support all formats

Ya, true. But then check, just to be sure. Also, you may need to use a SCART adaptor because while the SCART connector failed here in Malaysia in the 90s, it was very popular in the UK and is apparently now a standard.

Ask the fren who you're visiting in the UK? tongue.gif

But really, that issue you don't have to worry until you get to the UK because they don't sell the adapters here in Malaysia anyway (although some game consoles seem to come with it. My PAL V.Smile Pocket that I bought from Toys R Us comes with one).
