Hi to all sifu,

I previously only use Asus board during socket 478 era and found bios auto OC to be quite easy and straightforward.

Since Gigabyte VS Asus war in media few months back (http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=696430&hl=asus+lied), i mistrust Asus dy and went ahead and bought new rig with following spec:

Vista Ultimate 32bit (SP1)
Intel Q9450
Gigabyte EP45-DQ6 (bios F12)
2x2GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 RAM
Gigabyte 9800GTX
Antec Neo HE 550 PSU
Zalman CNPS9700 LED Heatsink
500GB Sata HD
DVD Writer

So, i search around and found this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/251423-3...es-ep45-updated

I followed step by step, even flash back to older bios. Still, i experience the infinity boot loop. Haizzz.

Anyway, i am quite satisfied with stock speed, however I would love to overclock my CPU like so many other enthusiasts are able to.
Should i stick with this board or move back to an Asus since i discover the conclusion regarding the Gigabyte VS Asus war was just media hype? If so, what comparable Asus board i should aim for? I have read that the EP45-DQ6 is quite notorious and not able to OC well.

Pls, to all Sifu, need your advice and input regarding this. Thank you very much.

Flash to latest bios?
Try 400FSB 1:1 divider,no v increase first

Firstly, I myself do not understand what your question is.

Secondly, gigabyte and asus both lied, it doesnt matter how many phases it use, the PWM buck controller used by both manufacturers mostly is not rated for the "Phases" for the cpu. Meaning, even if the board has 12 phase, he buck controler can only control 6, meaning 6 idle, 6 load.

How much are you expecting to clock? and to what extent have you tried clocking already?

Sorry for not clarify.

Well, i have not been able to overclock at all because always experience the infinity boot loop. failed to oc will auto reboot and reboot and reboot...have to reset bios.

i followed exactly as in this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/251423-3...es-ep45-updated but no success also.

Because i frustrated cannot OC at all, that's why i ask whether to change to an Asus board as my previous experience with asus i can get moderate gains. I never before use gigabyte board so when i first time attempt to OC fail then repeated attempt no success, i feel better to revert back to Asus. Main reason i left Asus was because i read thread that Asus lied as claimed by Gigabyte. So i go for Gigabyte. As you said, conclusion is both lied and it was just all media hype. anyway, i kinda felt that Asus worth to give another shot since i had success with its product before whereas Gigabyte totally zero so far.

so, i just asking here any advice to OC the board i currently own. if other user experience prove this board not as good OC potential as say a comparable Asus board, then i'd like to know for sure.

how much i expect to oc? well, right now all i want is: at least can OC. coz i never able to OC even as i followed the above thread step by step and because it is similar rig to what i have. if that guy can oc his rig, why mine can't? sad to say such an expensive board yet not much of OC potential as according to what other owners claim but they are optimistic future bios revision will unlock this board potential.

yes, i tried to OC by using ALL bios revisions already. no success. Actually, i once able to boot up with the the bios showing 3.0ghz but crashed when vista loading screen. reboot and attempt oc again...infinity boot loop. so sux having to remove battery every time and try again...haizzz

Try this

My Bios Settings:
Robust Graphics Booster - Auto
CPU Clock Ratio - 8x (3.2GHz)
CPU Host Frequency - 400MHz
PCI Express Frequency - 100MHz
C.I.A.2 - Disabled
Performance Enhance - Extreme
X.M.P. - Disabled
MCH Frequency Latch - AUTO
Memory Frequency - 960mhz AKA 5:6, 1:2.5
DRAM Timing Selectable - Manual (5, 5, 5, 15) tRFC 42
CPU Vcore - 1.3375V
DRAM Voltage - 2.0v
C1E - Disabled
TM2 - Enabled
EIST - Disabled

Values indicated in bold are what you need to change from the link given. Item in RED is the important value to change.

The rest of the voltages set to Normal for now.

The settings given are idiot-proof settings and you have to tune it further when you can as its not the most optimized setting.

all mobos are easy to clock once u know its limitationn

ure problem is.. u think clocking is a matter of push of a button and then u gameaway...

Added on November 7, 2008, 2:26 amalso reading is not clocking or understanding each board...

if we were to believe in everything ppl say...

@TS,there are no such a thing as asus vs gigabyte.
OC is about trail and error and know your board well then you will have good oc result biggrin.gif
Do keep us updated TS.Your setup should be able to run 400xmax multi as your processor is bin down from native 400FSB (Like Q6600,native 333FSB) laugh.gif

no dude sorry didnt meant to be harsh...
u have a good board..
its a dq6...

hence it will have a lot of features for clocking and a stable config that u would want...

advice check the xtremesystem.org
register there and go to the intel thread
theres a dedicated gigabyte p45 thread...
read there...

thanks guys for all input respek... notworthy.gif

Hmmm, i have done exactly as posted above and this time no infinity loop but it will revert to fail safe bios. so still no success in OC. will do more research regarding this to see where is the problem area.

Added on November 21, 2008, 9:05 pmhaiz, been trying to push push still no go.

wondering where the prob may be...

Added on April 10, 2009, 4:07 amWow, finally an update 4 months later!

The culprit was the 9800GTX. Had no idea that the card was sucking so much juice. Anyway, recently upgraded my graphics to HD4890 and as I'm typing this note, my Q9450 is running stable @ 3.2GHz based on bryanyeo87's bios settings. Woot! Thanks bryanyeo87!

Now itching to push further...hahha!
