my friend got this problem with 4850GS in a few games that he played. It's makes a screeching sound and a sound that he thinks isn't normal. maybe certain games has driver problem or the card itself has problem...not sure.
but for me it happens in all games, those electrical interference noise kinda sound..like old radio, but very soft..
Another this guys,
my system is as per my signature, with 4GB RAM and winXP 32bit service pack 3. And my new card is the Gainward HD4870x2 2GB, but when i use catalyst to view hardware info, it shows 1GB only for the card..is this normal? is there any vga memory limitation in xp? confuse redi..

Added on December 4, 2008, 3:39 pmsorry..i think i found the answer for the 2gb-->1gb issue:
QUOTE
I have Win XP32 (MCE), I just upgraded to 4gb RAM (too cheap to just go to 3gb) and I was gifted with a 4870x2 by an associate(!). Currently, windows is showing 3.25gb of memory in system properties and dxdiag, and showing 1gb video memory (the card has two gb). Now, I understand XP32 is limited in the amount of memory it can address, and I believe I understand that since the video card is effectively two cards in one, it only needs to address the memory on the first card.
source:
tomshardware forumbut how to check total physical memory for the card? is there any low level tool that can fetch the info from the card's bios?
