It actually defeats the purpose of having a filter on in the first place. So I dont see the point in it.

gila! Stick on the lens? Over here, they have the glass type filters in the super small size which fits on to the part that says Leica Summicron.

![]() ![]() I'm using the above lens protector for my LX3. I have snap quite a bit. I dont think it has caused any difference to my eyes. The advantage... I can wipe the lens easily when snapping at oily places (food / restaurant). Price: RM40 PS: Photo not taken with LX3 |

No way I'll put a plastic thing in front of that lovely Leica Summicron lens. Plastic will surely take away some of the sharpness due to the inferior clarity.

The lens filter fits nicely on the lens. You wouldn't know it is there.
I bought it at Camworld (Sg Wang). Look for Alan 012-5771505 Other shops sell accessories (full screen protector / lens filter / extra battery) very expensive. But at Camworld I got it soooooo much cheaper. No cut throat Disclaimer: Not associated with Camworld / Alan |

QUOTE(ianho @ Jan 1 2010, 04:23 PM) One interesting thing. I notice that the lens states DC Vario-Summicron, f/2 – f/2.8 5.1–12.8mm ASPH. Asph. means aspherical lens. From what I understand, only the pro level lenses would use glass aspherical elements. Reason is cost. Very expensive to polish and grind the glass blocks to the aspherical shape. So only the high dollar pro lenses will get the glass aspherical treatment. The cheaper asph lenses will use ... errr ... plastic!! Anybody have further info to refute or confirm my observation? » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |

so the LX3 front element is flat, not a spherical shape like normal lens?
If that is spherical, no way u can stick well with a sheet of plastic.. The photo above shows tat the sticker actually din stick on the lens.. If tat piece of thing hard enough? that when you wipe the plastic" it won touch the lens front elements? |

Well if its a japanese kit lens, I don't care too much. But this lens has the legendary words Laika AND Summicron written on it. The cheapest Laika Summicron M is priced at around RM 7k ringgit I think. |

it is not made by Leica; Leica just authorized Panasonic to use their brand. The glass can be plastic, can be molded glass... can be whatever.
I used to have a Sony camera that comes with Carl Zeiss T* lens... the image quality is sooo overrated. |

lenspen does not prevent scratches
but most lenses can survive a slight knock without becoming damaged, unless the camera fall onto some sharp rocks, then |
