Disk: Highest Active Time in vista's resource monitor is high (task manager > performance > resource monitor)
according to microsfot help file... icon_question.gif
QUOTE
The Disk label displays the total current I/O in green, and the highest active time percentage in blue.

still dont understand what does the blue mean practically hmm.gif

here is my harddisk's activity based on LED indicator on my notebook
- about 30 seconds after logon, no activity (all programs are finish loaded i think, fast huh? tongue.gif )
- 1 minute something to about 4 minutes, the harddisk starts its strange activity, and Disk: Highest Active Time in vista's resource monitor is flying high at 97-100%, it continues for about few minutes. This should be a background activity since i can still open a 20mb pdf file with acceptable speed during this period.

i wonder is it consider normal compare to yours? I hope this every time startup activity would not shortening my harddisk life span sad.gif

attached herewith are some resource monitor screenshots
+ I have checked, all useless startup programs have been disabled. No viruses, newly installed vista

sometimes it is normal for the hardisk to run at full for the few minutes of startup..but if it continues to run at full even after about 5-6 minutes then there is a problem..usually if it is a virus, the hardisk activity will not be very high but the CPU activity will be high at all times.

hopefully,

but i suspect the following
C:\pagefile.sys (Page File)
test it by reconfiguring the pagefile size now

C:\$Mft (NTFS Master File Table)
- no information yet

It's normal..
My vista also like u...
First 30 sec seems all startup and background program already finish loading... But after 2-3 minute, it's start to running something and take about 3 minutes.. After that,no more disk activity...

vista makes use of idle resources to do background stuff, such as indexing and defragmentation... so no worries here

same scenario. Usually happens after a restart or fresh startup.

Vista sometimes defragments your hard disk when user is inactive. When you rung your apps again, it should be quiet again.
