Hey guys i need some help here, really outdated bout LCD's u would like to know whats the best i can get for a budget of RM650 for a 22 inch which might be powered by a 4850 or a 4870 512mb

Thanks so much  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif

My advice is to get the Dell 2409W... It is the best bang for buck in LCD category... Plus 4850 and 4870 have no problems powering up a 24"... So, don't worry.... U can't go wrong with Dell.... laugh.gif

Hi all,

I would like to ask which of the following resolutions is suitable for gaming:
1.  1920x1080 or
2.  1920x1200

Thanks
*
Actually, both of the reso are good in gaming.... But if u decide to use PS3 to play games on a monitor, I suggest u take the one which has 1920x1080 reso.... U also can take the one with 1920x1200 reso but make sure it has 1:1 pixel mapping...

Now i was wondering...
is HDMI connector that important as a factor to purchase new LCD..
based on what kianwee said...u can get a converter if ur lcd doesnt have a HDMI connector...
My question is...did any1 try this before here and did any1 notice any problems like... decreased the image quality or sumthing?i once heard bout by doing so..u actually lowering the quality transferred...
*
To answer ur question, I believe most ppl wans HDMI input bcos it is an extra to have and it saves u more money in the sense that u don't need to purchase LCD TV in order to hav HDMI....

As for DVI-HDMI connectors, nope, they don't decrease quality since both HDMI and DVI is literally the same.... The onli difference between them is HDMI carries sound whereas DVI doesn't.... Both are still in digital format.... Why we wan these converters is bcos of our graphics cards since most of them don't have HDMI interface.... The onli advantage that DVI has over HDMI is they are able to output 2560x1600 resolution provided they are dual link DVIs whereas HDMI can onli output to a maximum of 1920x1080....

QUOTE(terryble @ Feb 9 2009, 01:57 AM)
anyway for more info...dell S2409 although have an HDMI connector....but..there are no audio out..
my fren who bought it for his ps3 in his room was disappointed as he has to get his audio out somewhere else...>.<
*
If not mistaken, the Dell S2409W doesn't hav any speakers right??? So, there won't be any audio.... Like I said, HDMI is just another way to connect ur devices to ur monitor onli.....

Dude thanks for ur explaination on the HDMI cables.. notworthy.gif
very professional explaination...
so...my question to u is....
do PC users need to care about that so much...since most monitors doesnt even have speakers...
i know it is still good to have it....jus wondering its usefulness if it doesn't have any speakers...

QUOTE(kianwee @ Feb 9 2009, 10:15 AM)
HDMI on a PC LCD is important for some users, imagine you have a PS3 and you are hooking it up to the monitor. At the same time, you have a PC as well, and you want to hook up to that monitor too. So the PS3 can hook up via HDMI and the PC via DVI. If you use a converter for PS3, you will end up hooking up your PC using analog.

If you plan to use the LCD solely for PC, then HDMI is not important at all.
*
Refer to kianwee's answer.... That will be my answer as well.... That's why I say it is a bonus to hav if u hav other devices that requires HDMI....

No la... I'm not pro la.... I just google it up during the time where I need the info so from there I learn.... Can't wait to use Displayport when going mainstream since it will replace our current DVI.... Easier and without hassle....

QUOTE(allenultra @ Feb 9 2009, 02:51 AM)
Dell S2409w does have Audio Out.
I own one and I know there is a audio out at the rear panel. Just beside the VGA connector.
*
Ic ic... Sorry for my assumption since I don't own one but I dun c the purpose of the speakers since I've used one monitor with speakers before and it is super weak.... A caplang speaker also louder than it.... Also, this issue is easily settled by using a workaround where ur audio is routed to ur PC speakers anyway.... laugh.gif

Guys,

Whenever/whichever LCD you gonna buy, bear this in your mind : RETURN POLICY. Ask as many questions as you can on the return policy they have because LCD monitor (TN/MVA/PVA/IPS/E-IPS/S-IPS/H-IPS) tend to have stuck/dead pixel(s) on the display EASILY.

I returned 2 NEC 2690 and 2 Planar 26" LCD monitor back to the online retailer due to the stuck/dead pixel(s) on the panel.

As for the type of the that panel you need. My 2 cents : TN panel : Nice to have to play fast pace and online games with no lagging. As for watching TV/Movie/HD-DVD/Blu Ray, color reproduction is a bit wash out when you view from different angle. TN is good to have for daily normal daily usage like web surfing, checking emails, online chatting etc.... No suitable for graphic work.

As for MVA/PVA : Nice to have to play strategy games. Lagging on the fast pace gaming. Watching movies is nicer, color reproduction is much more better than TN panel but not as good as IPS panel.

Finally, IPS panel, no questions about this panel that the color is superb no matter which angle you view it. Nice to have to watch movies and play strategy game. The only complaint on this type of panel is its tiny lagging. If you are doing a lot of graphic work, photo editing and web programming, IPS panel is your right choice.
*
Nice explanation.... I was going to say the same thing.... For gaming, TN panel is always the best.... Look for an LCD that suits ur usage and also remember to look at return policy... I think they hav different rules for return policy based on which monitor panel that ur monitor has if not mistaken..... That's what I heard lor.... I also wanna know this as well....

The reason I buy coz I got a very good deal.... laugh.gif

Actually was thinking about getting a TN panel for gaming but in the end got a IPS panel..... doh.gif

But anyway, I'm still satisfied with my purchase.... biggrin.gif

Back to the topic, Dell S2409W is for now the best value for money monitor.... Performance is decent if u compare to others.... There's a user who did a comparison review before.... Look for the user Silverfire and the review is on his siggy.... U can check that out as well.... It may help u in deciding.....

hows the quality?

Viewsonic is a very good brand for monitors.... I previously owned one and the PQ is fantastically sharp... Also, Viewsonic produces its own panels and those panels are used by some major monitor manufacturers....

Best buy = Good quality?  tongue.gif
*
Best buy actually refers to very good price:performance ratio..... For this price, u can get performance similar to other LCDs which costs more.... This is how u define best buy..... In terms of quality, I'm not sure coz I'm not using this but from feedback from users that hav really experienced it, the quality is good and it won't lose out to any other competitors.....
