Naka HU is clean clear but very thin sounding.
Clarion 9255/D2/D3 sounds quite ok with decent tuning options.
McIntosh HU BNIB starts at 5k so shops tend not to stock them.

Rainbow comps will give clean clear sound, but again very thin.

All this is compared to Mc and scans, so dun take them at face value.
Naka, Clarion higher end HU and Rainbow comps will outperform regular retail Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, RF, that kinda range of products.

Again it is easier for us if you state your max budget and whatever you've been offered so far. Easier to compare 2 products than every mentioned brand.

McIntosh HU and amps does what the rest cannot do.......... Pure natural sound. When a guitar sounds like a guitar.

another term that audiophile may use is dry, or very solid state sounding, lack of colouration, dull, etc

A fair comparison would be the same song played from a radio station compared to from an ori cd. Radio being thin. Thats the best i can explain in words.

Ok..general question...is mcintosh the best brand? I did drop in many shop..many say good and may say they dont sell..if good why dont sell?
*
theyre one of the best, but may not be everyone's cup of tea, but only amps and head units la

most dont sell bcoz very expensive, not many ppl can afford, but u can still find a few here n there

Those shop I went too says it sound very nice..I did check in the internet..their amp also looks nice..never seen
fitted locally or in any ICE competition..
*
not everyone's interested with competition, they just want personal satisfaction from hearing good quality music when driving....

the list was last updated since 2008, just take it with a pinch of salt, and update your own info accordingly

firstly you should ask yourself what kind of music you playing and what you like and dislike....sound is subjective, differ from everyone's preference.

sifus, what is the best head unit to get?

im planning to build up my ICE from time to time.
for now, getting the head unit, then mid speakers. farming some money again, buy other stuffs. surely i cant buy them all lump sump. its juz like playing dota, buy piece per piece then combine..of coz need to get the crucial parts 1st. so im starting with head unit. any ideas?

*music im into - rock music, dance music, i love to hear clear voice projection from the singer, together with the beat/bass sound. budget not so much, around 2-3k for head unit with mid speakers.subwoofer, dependable.i may fork out more than 1k, but if got subs that less than 1k,that wud b awesome.im rolling in wira, rear mid speaker and front door mid speakers. amps is on another budget than that head unit.so some1 can suggest me amps too.
