the 1002H

C-zone price list listed it as RM1699

or did they mislabel and it's actually the 1002HA?

havocx, i have installed Win 7 on the 1000HE. So far, no problem. However, there is no Internet Security or Antivirus program for Win 7. Any recommendation?

Also, Win 7 does not recognise the several Asus utility programs, how did you install the Lan Utility? ie the software that allows you to switch off the Wlan, webcam etc?

Also cannot install the Super Hybrid Engine software? ie the software to contro cpu performance and battery?

Although Win 7's power management is quite flexible for the 1000HE, SHE still allows you to squeeze out more from the battery.

Below is a solution provided by a forummer @ eeeuser.com. It worked for me:

QUOTE
To install SHE and ACPI:
First update your BIOS if you haven't already http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/EeePC/EeePC...E-ASUS-0802.zip
Get http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/561353/7eee.zip  It's the required parts of the eee software for Windows 7. There's a readme.txt in there:

1 Install SuperHybridEngine_1.16.exe
2 Copy asacpisvr.exe to C:\Program Files\ASUS\EeePC. UAC might ask for confirmation.
3 Create a shortcut to asacpisvr.exe in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
4 Open Start, type devmgmt.msc and press <Enter>.
5 Right click the unknown device and select "Update driver software".
6 Choose the "Browse..." option and select the folder where asusacpi.inf and asusacpi.sys were saved.
7 If it complains about an unsigned driver let it install.
8 Reboot and you should have better battery life, hotkeys and SuperHybridEngine.
As for AV, word around is that NOD32 v3 is lightweight and good. I personally use AVG8.5 Free, but might change to Nod for more batt life.

the thing with the 1000HE is that it's too perfect already.

Feature packed + 7 hours (realistic) batt life = RM1500 (for fark's sake i bought mine 4 days ago and it was RM1.6)

Asus knows they can do better by coming out with flashier looking models (1004 and 8) with less batt life but still charge a higher price.

If they don't discontinue the 1000HE, nobody in this economic climate is going to spend RM1.7 to RM1.9 on a netbook that looks nice, but less performance.

In conlcusion, the 1000HE is awesome (same goes for the Samsung NC10/20 and that Acer with the tumor looking 9-cell sticking out)

I think to most people 150 grams and few hundred ringgit is a major consideration. Why pay few hundred dollars more when 150g is only the weight of a handphone? But I guess different people are different and each one of us give priority to different things. To me, price to weight ratio is very important.

AS to thick notebook, also not much difference. It is not like yesteryear 2 inch thick books where you can see the difference. Put a 1000HE and a 1008 side by side, most people won't bother unless one is a perfectionist. Last time, everybody used to chase thin handphones, nowdays, people prefer functionality as opposed to thinness.

I can get a whole 8 hours of usage on my HE with wifi on and brightness 70%. Besides the 1000HE, only the Samsung NC10, N110 and MSI Wind 115 are the only machines that are really worth it currently
*
Again, intangible value is of personal preference.

Early netbook adopters of the 901 and related will definitely feel and see the difference of weight and size of the 1000HE. After all, the 1000HE IS quite the behemoth compared to say the S10 or D250/150. I would say the 1000HE will be the last of the 'fattys' as they are the last of the 'function over looks' series. It's only understandable from a business point of view to focus on asthetics to max profits and min costs. (It's anytime cheaper to put a fancy casing on a netbook over including a high capacity 6-cell)

However for ppl like me (and presumably michaelpaul), the 1000HE is my first foray into netbooks and my last laptop was an old and heavy Compaq V2405 (charger added weight as well because battery was worned out).

I'm fortunate and glad that I didn't settle for the S10 or Wind (although I would still be content with them), as the 1000HE battery life is above all else what I wanted.

Moving on the battery life, I don't think michaelpaul's statement that with wifi on and 70% brightness gave him 8 hours battery life is entirely accurate.

The 1000HE is amazing, but it's not *that* amazing.

I'm pretty sure that you had minimal surfing done and perhaps the majority of the time the netbook was either idle or just simple word processing?

well, then that's very bloody amazing then

post up your settings:

OS:
Anything turned off?: BT? Ethernet?
SHE setting?

edit: on a side note, was watching a video on my HE last night @ 12am, fell asleep with the thing on. Woke up at 6am and it was still up and running. Didn't check how much batt life left tho.

another thing:

Windows' battery meter is rather inaccurate in calculating real battery life.

If you really want to know what your battery is capable of, please install:

For that price its completely worth it  smile.gif  not the best most perfect but yes itll do.
A perfect netbook for me by order of importance would be one that is
1. Has a battery life of 9 hours or more.
2. Weighs less than 1kg.
3. Has 3G modem and / or GPS built in.
4. Thinner or as thin as the Aspire AOD250, the AOD150 is a little thicker than AOD250.
1008 Series completes the profile.
5. And having brought many versions of the netbook around, it has to again be lighter than 1kg.
6. Not cost more than RM1200.

Personal preferences of course.  rclxms.gif

My turn:

1. More or equal to 9 hours (realistic usage, wifi on etc.)
2. 1.45kg is fine with me.
3. 3g Modem a must
4. As long not thicker than average notebook
5. Pricing is impossible in Malaysia with all the markup, so RM1500-1600
6. ION platform
7. HDMI
8. Higher Res (1280x720 or 1366x768)
9. No more Elantech touchpad, Synaptic is fine.
10. Play CRYSIS! (lol j/king)

Hi,
I have installed a small  battery software called BatteryBar to monitor my 1000H battery level.

Upon fully charge, XP software indicate that I have about 6hrs usage, but the battery bar gives only 4 hrs.

But the actual usage is about 5 hrs or so.

What does that indicate ? a bit of confused .

XP battery meter has never been accurate.

BatteryBar is a good choice, as it's very accurate.
