i really wanna buy this phone to replace my beloved E61i, but after reading d specs, 2 things made me think otherwise and wait for E72..

1. no 3G = no videocalls = no front camera
2. no built-in GPS or A-GPS

but then again, if these two were in E63, it'll be E71 wont it? hehe.. oh well, basically E63 is juz a 'two coloured' looks of E71 with specs slightly better than E61i..

awesome feedback bro.. congrats on having couple phones.. damn jealous of ur gf! hehe tongue.gif anyway basically in terms of specs, it goes like this e61 -> e61i -> e63 -> e71.. but frankly eventhough no gps (can get a proper gps such as garmin devices), camera same like e61i (at least e63 has front camera for vidcalls), and plastic casing (less slippery n no more fingerprints on d metal surface like e71, constantly wiping every minute)..

e63 is a great budget upgrade.. wish it came with a data cable, nokia really means it when they say 'stripping down' the cost haha..

Any recommended software for e63? like must have?
*
if the E63 uses the same softwares as E61i, then i could recommend u a few.. (google them for infos)

Applications:
1. Advance Call Manager (filter unwanted calls/sms for incoming/outgoing etc)
2. MSN @ Windows Live Messenger (for MSN chats)
3. eBuddy (for Yahoo, MSN, Google, AIM chats)
4. LCG Jukebox (for playing MP3s, can minimize into mini-mode on standy screen)
5. DivX Player (play divx format videos)
6. MobiTubia (for watching and saving videos from YouTube)
7. Gmail (checking, receive n send emails)
8. Opera Mini (internet browser, faster than the default browser)
9. Voice Inbox (when active, voice messages are saved into ur phone, no need to dial ur telco)
10. CallCheater (adds fake sound effects during voice calls like rain, traffic jam, construction, etc)
11. Mobiola Webcam v3 (makes ur phone into a webcam, compatible with Yahoo, Windows Live, and Skype messenger!)

Games:
1. MicroPool (a very simple n nice snooker/pool game)
2. SkyForce Reloaded (excellent 2D plane shooter game)
3. Sensible Sudoku (the best sudoku game, in my opinion)
4. Nokia Snakes (the 3D version, tougher than it seems)
5. Worms (die-hard fans would love this, but got some sound issues)
6. Tetris Pop (excellent tetris game with amazing graphics)
7. and many games from Gameloft (brilliant graphics n gameplay)

@maxtor1:
U can install 3rd party softwares, although some may invite unknown viruses etc.. All u need to is go to App Manager -> Settings -> Online cert. check -> select OFF. Then u can install them, but as a reminder make sure u scan for viruses prior to installation. u said e63 doesnt have a front camera??? cry.gif i ws really hoping it had one, dats d reason i wanna upgrade.. *sigh*

@scoop7:
yes there are a few antiviruses such as Kaspersky (using it now, trial expired already hehe, but still can patch new virus definition file), NetQin, and a few others i cant remember.. So far there arent any viruses for s60v3 yet but it's gud that u practise safety first smile.gif If u happen to buy the full Kaspersky antivirus, it will scan every incoming sms/mms/email before it goes into ur inbox esp whn it's from an unidentified number.. but now mine expired so i can only do manual scan whenever i want to..

this phone runs on symbian series60v3 which doesnt have any viruses (yet).. but d previous old phones dat run on series60v2 have viruses which causes d phone to lag, duplicates outgoing sms, prohibiting phone settings, etc..

dun worry, juz enjoy ur virus-free s60v3 phone.. my e61i nvr hd any viruses for d past few years smile.gif

nokia e-series hav been blessed with long battery life since e61.. coz it uses 1500mAl rather than the typical 800-900mAl batteries on other phones. that's one of the good reasons to get the e-series.. the first few weeks ure gonna enjoy the long lasting battery but later like any other phones, it'll cut down a few days but still lasts longer than 2 or 3 days..

my e61i.. with frequent wifi, calls n sms, even set it to full brightness display.. not to mention using it as a webcam (which is a battery drainer) but managed to get pass at least 2 days.. and so i bet this newer model might have tweaked the battery efficiency to last even longer smile.gif

having many apps running in bground doesnt affect much on battery, depends on what apps ure running.. however it does affect a little bit of ur phone's performance but not too much until ur phone hangs or stops working hehe..

there are softwares to limit usage of apps in bground but i prefer to use the default 'hold the home key and select the apps u want to close/end' method.. some ppl prefer to have certain apps in bground (contacts, logs, camera, etc) so they dont have to wait everytime they wanna use those apps..

but i believe e63 is good at multitasking while preserving battery energy.. smile.gif

try lowering the light sensor and light timeout.. i used to set maximum and 60 seconds, but my phone wont last for 2 days.. so i set the light sensor to half, and 5 seconds for the light timeout.. got arnd 3 days..

power saver timeout @ screensaver shud be set to 1 minute, i think that's long enough to wait.. i mean, who sets the screensaver to appear after 30mins?

hmm wish nokia phones got a standy button to turn off the display like O2 phones, that wud definitely save more battery..

finally the TS is back, great to hear your feedback. i told u missing already.

battery issue no more, i bough another battery.
also bough another new 8GB toshiba microSD last week. RM65.00 only from lowyat plaza.

Added on January 26, 2009, 12:22 ami have a bad news here.
yesterday i converted 5 video, 2 videos at 3GP files cannot run and only hear sound. because the both files is about 260mb per file.

another 4 files was 60mb earch, no problem at all.

i still remember i have using the same procedure when i convert the video for E61i, and it is fine.

wonder why E63, more advance...but can't work.
*
bro.. what converter r u using? d default pc suite converter? i did encounter this prob whn i used it but no more whn i used another converter.. smart movie converter (nd 2 dload n crack it on phone n pc) or super converter (free app but nd 2 configure a bit).. but it cud also be a firmware issue, mayb awaiting for new update to solve this prob..

i dunno abt e63.. but i did experience some lagging whn i put in bigger sized memcard into my e61i (1gb+).. whenever i put in the default 128mb or any other smaller size, the lag lessens.. maybe it has something to do with reading the memcard?

hi all E63 users, i wanna ask if compare this to 5800 express music, which one is better? im looking for a phone around this price 1k with wifi and good battery life, and a decent camera too.

btw, i saw the menu icons are a bit boring, is like too windows 3.1 like. sad.gif . is there anyway to change the icon to looks better?
*
have u tried using any e-series from nokia before? if u havent, it's one of the best (and budget) e-series at the moment. e63's battery is 1500mAh (just like e61i and e71) while 5800 is 1320mAh.. pls keep in mind ure comparing a business phone to a media phone, so it depends on d main reason of usage.. either work or pleasure. smile.gif

icon wise.. i think it remains the same regardless if u change the theme. some ppl prefer animated and some dont, but i believe e-series icons are static. camera on the other hand goes to 5800 (3mp carl zeiss autofocus) since e63 is stuck with the same 2.0mp camera as present in e61i.

5800's 3.2" touch screen vs e63's 2.3" screen with qwerty keypad.. two different form of display and input. regarding OS, 5800 uses the latest Symbian OS v9.4, Series 60 rel. 5.. while e63 is using Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI.. as both are using the same processer speed ARM 11 369 MHz CPU.

5800 wins over e63 with two obvious features.. a-gps & secondary camera (for video calls). smile.gif
