Teen shot and killed in Oakland
Saturday, August 22, 2009

A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed in Oakland, police said today.

Ricardo Cortez Jr. was found suffering from gunshot wounds on the 1700 block of 47th Avenue at about 8:40 p.m. Friday, said Officer Jeff Thomason, Oakland police spokesman.

The boy was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made in the slaying, and a motive is under investigation.

Rioting inmates set central Ky. prison ablaze

BURGIN, Ky. – Rioting inmates set fire to trash cans and other items inside a central Kentucky prison, and damage to some buildings was so extensive that officials were busing many of the facility's 1,200 prisoners elsewhere, police said Saturday.

QUOTE
Reporting from Sacramento - After an impassioned debate over the cost and benefit of California's massive prison system, the state Senate on Thursday narrowly approved a controversial bill to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in spending on state lockups by reducing the time lower-level inmates would spend behind bars and on parole.

But the proposal remained stalled in the Assembly, where a host of lawmakers vying for higher office refused to take a vote that could portray them as soft on crime. Speaker Karen Bass kept her members late into the night in an effort to push through a watered-down version, to no avail. The Assembly adjourned just before midnight without taking action, planning to reconvene Monday.

"The caucus was exhausted," said Bass, a Los Angeles Democrat. "There still are several members who have issues with various parts of the bill."

The discord came as the state faces a looming deadline from three federal judges to produce a plan to reduce overcrowding by taking about 40,000 inmates out of a system that now holds nearly 170,000.

Democratic leaders and Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have been pushing a proposal that could help satisfy the judges and save money to shore up California's shaky budget.

these ppl certainly don't stay near Uni or on campus.
no one wanna rob poor students, U don't live in US what do U know. when U state London, Melbourne how much do u know about them?
a quick google, unemployment rate there around 6% in comparison LA is above 12%.
mid west unemployment rates also not low, MI over 22%, Chicago over 10%, Indiana over 10%, KY over 11%, Ohio over 11% etc.

Hi guys,

I wanna work in US.. planned to work 3-5 years?
is it possible?
*
WAT not possible.
find a job there and get employer to to apply for your E1 or H1B VISA.
today's Econ I am pretty sure very few to none of the Co would do that.
H1B or E VISA would cost a company US$3K to 10K, what can U offer which they cannot find a local to do.. need to spend that extra money.

The H2B working visa is a nonimmigrant visa which allows foreign nationals to enter into the U.S. temporarily and engage in nonagricultural employment which is seasonal, intermittent, a peak load need, or a one-time occurrence.

most ppl on J1 VISA cannot stay for 3-5yrs. only medical residents and teachers. US no storage fof pri/sec teachers.

Definitions

The definition of "temporary services or labor" now includes a specific one-time need of up to three years, without requiring the employer to demonstrate extraordinary circumstances.

Eligible Foreign Nationals

H-2B petitions will be approved only for nationals of certain countries important to the operation of the program and appearing on a list to be published annually in the Federal Register. Among the initial list of 28 participating countries to be published simultaneously with the Final Rule are Mexico and Jamaica. On a case-by-case basis, however, DHS may allow a worker from a country not on the list to be eligible for the H 2B program if it determines that such participation is in the U.S. interest.

Thank you very much. Based on your experience, which one is better? From what Ive read or at least people's reactions, AT & T is loathed.

AT&T has the best coverage. Ppl hate aT&t cause they have bad customer service and cost but they cannot turn to T mobile as coverage is not as good
