I have accumulated around 10 big plastic bags of beer/glass bottles.
Some questions:

1) Beside them being bulky, any reason why the charity recycling bins near in my neighbourhood don't accept them. Is it because the selling price is too little? Even the scavenger who I gave my aluminium cans, plastic or paper refused them. Can glass be recycled in Malaysia?

2) I researched and YWCA in Brickfields accept glass. I am staying in Cheras, Bdr Sri Permaisuri. If any kind green soul willing to help me bring the items to Brickfields please PM me. I don't drive but I am keen to do my part for planet Earth.

BTW: FYI I checked with a scrap buying company but was advised they can't recycle glass & my household volume is too little. That is why I am appealing for assistance here.

Question about steel

Kindly share if such material can be recycled? Example those can food containers, caps from chilli/ ketchup, lids from glass pasta sauce jars/ fruit jam. Pls note I am not into making any decoration or art item from the cans yeah....

I have been looking for a recycling centre that accepts glass too but have yet to find one. For some weird reason, the recycling plants in malaysia doesn't seem to accept glass, most probably because of the cost (I suspect it is probably cheaper to make new glass instead of recycling old glass, and you know our country is NOT the most environmental-friendly in the world)

if i do come across one i'll let you know, meanwhile let's hope our hunt for a glass recycle plant will result in success

Thanks for being the only one who replied! After continuous research, I have finally found recycle bins at Jusco Maluri. They accept EVERTHING! Plastic items, paper, glass, aluminium/steel.

Now I take LRT and bring whatever I have there for recycling I have also requested my condo management to provide us recycling bins, hopefully that will happens soon.

where do u find this bins? inside/outside or at the parking lot? coz i have a lot of old glassy thing to let go.. been to all recycling (besi buruk) shop.. they dont even think to take it away.. thats why i think they are called besi buruk.. they take only besi buruk.. hehe.. anyway can u find one kaca buruk recycling place?

Seriously why don't they accept glass?? >.<
I've been to so many places but couldn't find one that accepts glass. not even alam flora or mppj. =.=

now that i know YWCA and Jusco Maluri takes in glass, I know where to go. =) thanks for the info!

There are high costs involved in transporting the recycled glass to the re-manufacturing plant.

Consumers often add non-recyclable glass to the recyclable glass resulting in a less that pure product.

Much of the glass is used in commercial establishments is not recycled and ends up in landfills.

Glass must be sorted into colors to be recycled.

In order to keep the recycled glass pure, high costs are involved in purchasing machinery that will detect contaminants such as “Pyrex” and will sort the processed glass according to color.

Glass is used for a number of other products such as mirrors, Pyrex brand cookware, light bulbs, countertops and flooring materials. None of these products can be used to recycle glass, and if mixed with recyclable glass, will contaminate the final product.

i've got tired in finding info on recycling tech stuffs. i have tons of floppy disks, a few spoilt handphones, and tons of cds to recycle. does anyone know of any recycle sites in kl i can drop these off? i hate the idea of dumping these at tong sampah's...

Hi all, I've known from a friend that Greenlane (greenlane.com.my - website currently unavailable, but you can have their contact there) does recycle for charity. They do offer free pickup service.

This is what they do, they help the disabled to have their own career. For more information, you can give them a call. Usually i called them to pickup some old furnitures, old clothes and used papers.

If you feel like donating,
clothes.
unwanted furniture.
computers.
papers (recyclable items)
etc...

you can give them a call. They are really friendly people. I've went to their secondhand shop at Balakong,it's quite amazing to see how disabled people have their own career instead of just depending on some organization.

actually, you can return beer bottles to those who sell beer o liquor..normally if you sit down at a cafe house, order beer, drink it up, they will collect back the bottle and send back to the factory...hope i'm not too late to reply..

Is there any numbers/ngo out there i can call to come collect glass bottles from my place? I have like 10 big bags of glass bottles

try to drop them off anywhere selling them. make sure same brand.

Just give it to those Chinese restaurants selling beer. The distributor will collect those empty bottles and god knows what happens to them next

I got a lot of empty plastic bottles in our garage as I wanted to this to the one who are in need..

I too have lots (20 or more) of glass bottles of various size for recycle, with or without cap. Whoever needs it, please PM. You get it for FREE (serious), just that you need to do self collection from my place, KL.
