ABSOLUTELY NO DISCOUNT. In fact they raised the price 3k due to the fact that the 16600 had been discontinued.

Casio G-Shock G-5600-E-1DR Tough Solar. Nothing comes close for utility and toughness.

I checked out the Milgauss. The green sapphire version looks interesting but I think its about 22k. I think the Submariner no date is a better buy. RM15k.

Under 6k just get the OWC MILSUB. If movements matter just pay more for the Soprod A-10 movement. That would beat anything Ball or B&R have to offer. The Soprod A-10 is superior to the ETA 2892.

Otherwise, IMHO just save up for a Rolex. Nothing else holds its value like one or gets the instant recognition. I was in KFC the other day and some guy just couldn't keep his eye off it. During a dinner a lady also kept looking at my Sea-Dweller. hmm.gif

The MKIIs are about double the price of a standard OWC. Both are mail-order micro-brand watch companies which put a lot of passion into their products. MKIIs get built by a subcontractor in Switzerland. OWC is assembled in Australia.

I don't think a watch can be called an investment.

If you're talking about 2nd hand value, I believe Breitlings go for only half their retail, from what I've heard! Omega ... not too sure. Probably only Rolex/Panerai holds their value from what I've heard.

Pat. Phil. - the watch you buy when you're old and want to pass it to your next of kin. hmm.gif Why that's as interesting to me as writing my will but, to each his own.

I say just get what you like. My next watch will probably be the OWC Snowflake, blue dial Sub. It's gonna rock! cool.gif

Lots of results for "How to spot a fake Rolex" on Google, even videos.

Here are just a few links which may help:

Friedrice: Absolutely true. In fact everyone seems to think my Rolex is a fake! I would never buy a used Rolex without having an authorised distributor authenticate it. You can even buy used boxes complete with manuals, chronometer cert/card and tool on Ebay. There's a guy in Vietnam selling 316L steel Sea-Dweller cases which he claims is 1:1 replacement quality.

Bottom line, the fakes are getting better and better. IMHO it's better to get a Rolex-inspired homage like Orange Watch Co. (Daniel Fock) makes.

Their blue face, snowflake hands Tudor Sub inspired watch looks good - 300m water resist, sapphire crystal, CERAMIC bezel, mechanical movement (extra cost Soprod A10 upgrade possible), stainless steel case, oyster-style bracelet, etc. It's actually BETTER than the Tudor Sub, where Rolex took one of their own Subs and made a cost-down version.

I might get one of those. Looks good.

Rolex movements are good but they don't use ball bearings inside I heard. I guess the need for maintenance/oiling is greater, perhaps?

Actually, I would.

We don't actually need watches. If we really lived by logic, mobile phones tell us the time. If you really need a watch, the G-5600E Tough Solar G-Shock is the best watch IMHO with so many features.

A Rolex Sea-Dweller/Submariner and Omega Speedmaster are more like jewellery. Bling-bling!!

Also, logic dictates neckties are unnecessary. wink.gif Hahaha! I wish!

I bought one for my brother. He works in a tough job - oil and gas. The G-Shock may seem a bit youthful but it stands up to a lot of abuse and gives you so many features. Powers off at night and comes on as u pick it up, light is set to auto when you tilt it to look at the time. Has world time - good for travel, stopwatch, alarms, etc. Can't ask for more.

I think there may be a backlash against huge wristwatches for people older than 30, what's your say?

Meaning a lot of people who like mechanical watches but are perhaps a little more mature might go for 39-42mm watches, nothing larger. Watches which are a little more subtle and understated.
