I have a 12cm fan... And it is very fast and also screaming very loud... Louder than vizo's windstorm... sweat.gif
My mobo detected around 5000rpm... but i really think it does twice of that speed... maybe.... hmm.gif
I found that those normal fan controller some forumer sell just doesn't cut it for the job... it literally crippled the fan speed to only 20-30%.. which is even on full speed it still spin slower than normal silent 12cm fan... sweat.gif
I guessed that mine are industrial purposes cooling fan... laugh.gif
It can reduce my temperature 10°C +/-... flex.gif
So that is my story.

Now... I'm not that good at electrical stuff, but i still know few tricks...
So, What shall i do to regulate or control the speed/voltage so i can control the speed..?
Should i buy those wall socket light dimmer..? will it works..?
Btw, this fan have 4 wire... Normally we get RED, BLACK & YELLOW... but i have another BLUE wire...

P/S: I'm forced to wear headphone.... cool.gif

since u know a few tricks... u should be able to decipher this and do it....

simple, cheap, and worked wonders on my bunch of Delta fans (including 2 FFBs) on my old case

Thanks mADmAN..
Hmm... not exactly what i had in mind.. thou i thought about this trick before..
Maybe i try to get a rheostat.. that would be nicer..

Now i remember why i didn't use that trick mADmAN... And why that fan have been collecting dust for half a year..
Unfortunately the fan just stop spinning if less then 12v power is supplied to it... same to the fan controller i've mention... the fan it just stopped spinning... just a little tiny stutter spin... sad.gif

Anyway, what does the blue wire at my fan for..?

from the specs u posted....id take it its the delta FFB1212EHE???

that tricked worked on all 5 of my FFBs....

dont bother with rheostat....i tried before and it was literally smoking.

try checking to see if ur fans will work on 7v or not...plug the wires directly into the molex.... if it works then it should with the switch...

dont bother with 5v...wont work unless ur lucky.

if it doesnt....and doesnt work with anything less than 12v like u say....ur gonna need a PWM fan controller....this will send 12v in pulses...wat controls the speed is the frequency of the pulses.

unfortunately...PWM controllers arent easy to find (practically impossible to find one that can take 3A) and arent that easy to build.

Added on October 24, 2008, 6:34 pmoh yeah...no idea what the blue wire is for in ur fan....

my FFBs only has 3 wires....including a blue wire....the blue wire is for the RPM

Nope, mine are AFC1212DE...

7V doesn't work at all, let alone 5V..

My RPM is on yellow wire...

This line sure is a bummer... cry.gif

Anyway, those wall socket light dimmer can work...? 120V..? haha.. laugh.gif

wall dimmer sockets wont make a difference man...

its just made to witstand high voltage... at the end of the day when u use it, its only handling 12v. and when u turn the knob down, itll still lower the voltage. so in the end it still might not work...

although.... since its made to withstand high voltage... mebbe it wont burn out like a typical rheostat? u could try.... brows.gif

AFC series is PWM version if not mistaken, well as far as i know it is easier to get a fixed pulse width modulation with some simple circuits, may be you could get a simple 1 working; but the sad part you may not adjust the fan speed and worst you getting something even worst then normal 12cm fan
