Yes..thats why I took it..cause it's worldwide recognise and I have some dream plans to goto Australia for work, provided my dreams could materialise (VISA work permit)

But TGR, what work can I apply for using this Diploma? At first I thought of becoming mechanic in service centre and work my way up to service advisor etc, but it seems I can go other path.

Automotive is a big field, not just mechanics and all.

There are a lot of jobs you can apply.

First,you can join proton R&D or R3 R&D deparment

2nd, Perodua R&D

the best is finish off you degree first.

During your last year, choose the major field of yours in automotive engineering.

I think (no sure) the course which you are going to take is more related with technical line. For mechanical engineers, they learn more about theories, calculations and designing. Mechanical covers very wide field such as machine, robot, structure, fluid etc. Can you list out the study subjects ?

I called up City and Guilds Malaysia previously to clarify about this name ,cause I didn'[t like the name sounding, and they said that this is truly an Automotive Engineering course, although the subjects and name sounds so technical.

For this course, my lecturer told me that a student can take 3 additional, optional items which is Maths,Electronics and Science (can't remember clearly) and it can lead to degree in either Business or Mechanical or any other Degree whichever university accepts it.

The courses listed are under technical category. I am a local u graduate,so I only can give opinions from what I know. I suggest you to ask about the title of graduation that you will be honored. Do you take "Engineering Maths" and "Mechanical Engineering" ?

to be frank, i don't think an automotive engineering grad will be well-accepted in Malaysia. Malaysians are just too shallow-minded. 'mechanic' doesn't sound something worthy of respect in the eyes of the typical Malaysian. if you really want to expand, get a degree first, or work your way to the top. smile.gif or, get yourself some contacts from renowned workshops, then work your way in. they might send you overseas to have training if you're good then have you work in their company when you come back. biggrin.gif

whereas overseas, you have well respected members from the automotive world who work as pit crews for race tracks and such. not like here, our options are pretty limited. sweat.gif

my 2 cents based on my crappy knowledge from my conversations with someone, do correct me if i'm wrong. smile.gif

Firstly it's covered for any car.

RoxyGal, if u think this is too easy for you, wait until you sit for the exams set by Europeans for Asians. They dont make it easy as you think.

Course outline, sorry can't list here, there are like 500 over pages online:

http://www.cityandguilds.com/documents/ind...s_4101_v1-0.pdf

If you read the PDF file, please use the book mark function,
Go through the subjects V14,V15,V16,V17 and v27 of each subject.

Then browse under the section of "Outcome", it will explain what we will cover.

Work,
They do have Math and Science units (but it's optional) that can be used to apply for Degree in Mechanical Engineering, thats what my lecturer told us.

sE_vIxEn,
Thanks for your support.I like your "crappy statement" actually. smile.gif

It is true that many Malaysians look down at mechanic as those whom "failed their SPM and work as mechanics".

Xziled and sE_vIxEn,
It's true that mechanics in Western Countries such as US and Australia are much high regarded for their skills compared to Asian countries which pay cheap "labour" and "slavery" for the dirty work.

In Malaysia where mechanics and technicians (for service centres) are paid from RM 1000 onwards (and we dont have regulations on minimum wages)
Aussies pay (by the law of skilled labour) a minimum AUS 700 a week (thats about RM 2100 a week alone). IT Professionals there are even paid 3x higher than a normal Malaysian grad here.

I was just wondering if I could use my Diploma in Automotive to apply for Degree later...just like my lecturer he said that he used his Diploma (the same one that I am studying), to apply for his Business Degree.

As what others said, your expertise is quite specific into automotive fixing/repair/maintenance/servicing. Those kind of jobs are usually done by mechanics. Since world develops so fast that today's mechanics are necessary to be educated. People like what RoxyGal said will be replaced by new educated batch soon.

A develop country like Malaysia needs a lot of resources in its production and servicing line. The career opportunity for automotive is available but not much. For nowadays Malaysia market, knowledge in machine maintenance is still among the most popular technical job requirement. You can try to take extra study into hydraulic and pneumatic system because many machines run by them.

I have to remind you one thing here. If you are good in technical work, you better stick with it. Mechanical engineering is suitable for people who are good in Physics and Maths calculation and basically it is more to think how to design and problem solving. The study will involve difficult Maths calculations.

Sadly in Malaysia today, most engineers can't be specific in what they had learned. When they (mechanical engineers) work, their jobs are related to management and executive. In fact, this happens to other field of engineers (chemistry, civil and E&E)

In your case, if you can master both technical and engineering knowledge by getting a degree later, you will definitely have more advantages than other graduates, to get high paid salary job.

hi there. glad my comment didn't have you offended, some people can't take it! tongue.gif and i personally see people who are genuinely into the subject as people worthy of everyone's respect.

may i know what college are you studying in? afaik TOC in PJ offers bridging to UNITEC New Zealand and several other options. i dunno about others though.

a local Aussie guy told me mechanics are highly sought after in big cities in Australia now, hint hint. wink.gif
