turtle pellets + many many plant items + some live food. they are much more vegetarian than res, and should accept many kinds of veges and fruit.

they ones i keep in outdoor enclosures gives no growing chance to water lettuce and water hyacinth  smile.gif

p/s: they are very very susceptible to mbd (usually can be seen on depressed scutes, worse case deformed limbs) if their calcium/D3 requirement is not met.
naa... CB hatchling shouldn't have much problem with internal parasites.

the most common problem among hatchling Ocadia (and other species for that matter) is RI, which is often the direct result of neglect.

no need luck to know this if the shop keep their animals in shitty condition like CTY.

so far i seen,CTY provide better husbandry if compare to other pet shops in the PG island.perhaps KW got some improvement now?? smile.gif

try to compare with the one at tanjong tokong blink.gif

QUOTE(duhknight @ Nov 9 2008, 09:24 PM)
It couldnt be wrong...what i saw was really a burmese star...the boxy pattern with slightly light yellow was totally different from the indian star...wasnt a leopard either...you could recognise it at a first glance...and whats wrong with burmese stars? They are quite commonly sold in northern region...provided you have the cash that is...but RM300 is a bit expensive for a star...be it the indian star or burmese star

i don think its common.i never see any sellin in pet shops.
plus thier high cost,i don think those shop will get them. nod.gif

uzairi,samperth,camillenior,
do u think feeding hatchling tortoise with small amount of calcium for every meal offered is overdosing?

Thanks for the reply again Uzairi. I'm planning on going on a staple diet of Mustard Greens(Sawi) and probably some other veggies/fruits like once a week or so(no idea here, please do advice!!). With that planning in mind, how should the calcium in take be?

Oh yes, has anyone actually tried using sand? Are they dangerous? I think they look pretty darn cool but I'm not sure how harmful can it be to tortoises.

EDIT : One more thing guys, if I were to emulate UV basking, will a 5.0 UVB bulb or a 10.0 UVB bulb be better? Also, what are the differences between lower voltage UVB bulb and higher voltage UVB bulb? Which would be better then? Higher or Lower?
*
hi kar, heres some of my point of view
feeding them fruits will cause serious consequences like diahrea, imbalance of the gut PH etc,and will also damage the gut walls.for me,i never feed my arid tortoise with fruits, but i not sure with others.maybe once a while is find for them.

for sand, normally in oversea (malaysia so far rarely see ppl using that) they are using children playing sand.i tried to find it last time at all around the toys shop, but i coulnd find it..
if u use sand, normaly ppl wil put a tiles or some stones around the water bowl or feeding bowl to avoid them from consuming the sand.

8.0 UVB will be good enough.too high output might cause the eyes damage.
the voltage is depends on the height u place the bulb.height increase, voltage increase.

please correct me if i am wrong smile.gif

iinm, exoterra has stopped the production of all 8.0 uvb products but i don't know of other brands.

the voltage:height argument i don't get  smile.gif. power usage could never change with height .

get it bro.normally we will place the bulb at around 30cm tall rite? smile.gif

QUOTE(Kar @ Jun 14 2009, 01:16 AM)
Hey guys, I just got back from Purchasing a medium sized clamp lamp and a Osram 100w tungsten bulb . It's a little too hot and too bright as well. I'm thinking of switching to a Osram 60w Colored bulb(RED) to act as a infrared bulb. Warm but dimmer. Don't know if anyone has tried it before.

Anyway guys, I'm using a 1.5 ft x 1ft x 1ft glass aquarium  for a 2.5 inch ST at the moment and I'm wondering is my tank size alright and is my clamp lamp way too big for a tank that size?
*
i am using 60w and i think it is quite sufficient already as the basking spot is around 90f(at the height of around 1ft),plus u r using aquarium, the tank can heat up very fast.
for ur glass tank,i think is better to increase to like 2ft so u can provide them a cold and hot place.the main thing u hv to concern is the ventilation since u r using aquarium tank.
well kar,my opinion is get the guidance here and try out ur own method which is most comfort to u.
eg. the basking bulb.everybody's house got a different temperature, different height of placing the basking light, different kind of enclosure,so try out the best voltage and determine the basking spot temperature. as well as not overheating them, i think it is good enough.

correct me if i am wrong. smile.gif

QUOTE(common snapping k tat @ Jul 27 2009, 12:20 AM)
just to share with u guys:
i just came bak today from dr vellayan's clinic, horrified with the amount of parasites my stars have in their feces!! (some parasite eggs even hatched and look terribly big (argh!)... ). he sent some samples to test for salmonella as well.
in the end he gave me 4 types of medication,
1two solution to soak the turtles in, (one in mercury to clean fungus and other external agents , and one in sodium to let my youngest star -which eats very less T_T- absorb nutrients)

Those are Potassium Permanganate

2drops for the nostrils to cure the respiratory infection ,

Those are Baytril drop

3antiparasite medication to feed them (it was actually cute when he pushed the rear legs in to make the tortoise open the mouth saying "up! up! up!")

That is metrogyl to kill protozoa.
+ calcium powder which i discovered to be much more refined than the one i bought at the pet shop (which my stars totally refuse).
Hope thats help smile.gif
