i think the second picture is a common snapping turtle. Can further confirm if there is a red 'worm' inside its mouth.

BTW that so call red worm will fade to almost white as the snapper age !!

If you dont believe me ask or go check it out on 1 , 5 and 10 yr old specimen and you can compare !!

Hi guys,

This turtle was given to me by my friend around 2 years ago. Now I can't rare it anymore cause I really no time (got to work). Is there any place I can release it to?

Anyone know what is the species of it? Been looking in pet shops but I have never seen this turtle.

Appreciate any advices.

it's a new info. i.e. the red worm fade as the AST grows older. difficult for me to find the specimen of the age 1,5, and 10. Probably some members here can share. tks.

hello ms azxpert

i have to say that ur RES are very lovely. i have a pair at my house but they are doing pretty strange lately..
every morning, i put them on my balcony coz im going to work and at around 6pm, i'll put them back in my room
the sun rays dont shine on them directly so i guess it is ok since they wont be that hot during the noon.
but lately, they wont eat that much like before.only eat one-two pallets each per day. i feed them when im arrive at home in a different tank.
is it normal?they use to eat up to 3 pallets before. at what time they usually bask? do i need to put on the light the whole time including nights?
please advise icon_question.gif thank you

Hi there Chephren,

Thank you for your compliments, anyway how big and how old are your turtles?
Its is good to let your turtles basking under the sunlight. 45 minutes to 1 hour is enough for your turtles to get the UVB light from the sunlight. The best time is within 9am to 11am. No need to turn on the light at night (turtles also need to rest and sleep at night) but if you want to, you may used the infrared or night glo bulb just for heat to their basking area. Do you have the UVB light? If you do, then you don't need to put your turtles at balcony anymore. Maybe once a week on weekend would be nice for them to get fresh air.

I'm not sure why your turtles eat less, maybe cuz they are stress or because you don't feed them enough or they wanted variety. Have you give them vegetables? lettuce? carrot? small insects such shrimp, krill, mealworms etc? A general guideline used by most keepers calls for the amount of pellets to be in proportion to the size of their heads (excluding their necks). Remember, pellets should only be offered every other day or every two days for yearlings and adults. Hatchlings or turtles under a year old should be given pellets daily.

I hope I answered all your questions.

each few months i get a bigger tank to separate the tank to half

you might want to separate them before u regret putting 4 together in future
its not like put in the tank together after 5 minutes fight, is like i grab 1 out and put in next tank the feler straight go find the other feler and wrestle

No problem bro !! I know the largest 2 being togather since 2000 and the smaller pair (put togather ) with the first 2 since 2005 or 2006 !!
All have since move on into another big cement pond with adjoining beach for nesting !!

There are a few more in between size in that group (not in picture) all live as one big happy family !!
*
Advise noted but I think you missed a post . Theres more in that group now !! They are breeding adults now and they (sp as a whole ) not as unforgiving towards own species as most people think if you give them enough space to live in !!

there's an uncle who unconditionally believe the false fact that ally snappers with long tails are just sexually immature specimens... all his big allies must have had 'short tails' LOL

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

talking about sex, there's an article about endoscopic procedures to determine the sex of neonate 4 months up in july reptiles magazine.

i find this stuff to be very pleasing, considering the fact that my only experience in endoscopy was before they poked my cheekbone for maxillary-antral.

leviathan: u missed me or what? haha.. i'm stucked in the bushes of some southern states now, flummoxed over the taxa of some certain Zingiberales. ur babies are safe with my mum - she's motherly kekeke
