hmm thanx all for ur help   ...emm i feed it with small size guppy.the water level is recovering the shell..it is only 2.5inch...i think my prob is the water temp...i dont have alat temperature,so i think i will increase the temp of the water using normal light...is it ok?

I try to go near her..and she just caves in and refuses to come out!!

B4 her eye condition, i used to change her water once in two days.

Now i do it everyday but her eye has no improvement.

Will taking her to a vet work??she's so small..shell oni 2 1/2 inches long.

The only down side about them is they not hands-on pets but rather display animals !!

i feed them only with "sawi", the short-stem type. tortoise pellets are given every 1 or 2 weeks. i don't know what kind of calcium supplement to give them. i use ExoTerra Calcimize Conditioner, mix in water which use to soak the vege and pellets and also in their drinking water. i suppose those food will absord the treated water, and the tortoises will absorb it when eating. so, is it sufficient for them?

so, i should just leave the lower jaw problem as it is, right?

hello thr, i have a pair of red ear sliders of about 2 years old, i've been feeding them pellets ever since i got them.

is thr any way i can change their diet to vegetarian?

Hi guys anyone knows where i can get smooth prickly pear ( Cactus Opuntia- much lesser thorns ) readily in or around klang valley?

common opuntias don't have any specific horticultural value, so don't expect any nursery to specially cater for them. it's just available here and there, have to ask around nurseries for them. anywhere in sg buloh or pusat flora cheras is a good bet.

most important is watch out for pesticide/fungicide residues, and never feed your tortoises with plants bought straight from nurseries.

a better idea is to search around housing areas for owners that had planted super big specimens and buy some pads. those pads will easily develop into new plants, as opuntias are succulents.

It would take ages for them to multiply in quantity

Maybe i need to increase my Opuntia project scale and that means more money

succulent propogation as say... pad cuttings would grow new buds faster than any established nursery plant. 1-3 new buds per cutting is guaranteed within weeks, as opposed to the more laxed growth of established plant (might only grow a single bud after many months). a single 3-4 interconnected pads would therefore be as good, if not better, than any rm10-15 nursery plant.

unless you're in a hurry to get them for feeds and not plant them (in which we gotta solely depend on the stocks coming from nurseries), cuttings is the fastest way to multiply succulents like opuntia. smaller/shorter plant, yes, but more pads.

p/s: opuntia ficus-indica can't make money ler, unless you're going to go big scale for the pear. or pad afactory for tortoise owners. 

during LAMAN 2008, the only opuntia i saw during the whole show was some tiny weeny O. brasiliensis amongst other ornamental small cactus. which says much about the low value of the genus amongst horticultural enthusiasts.
