It all depends on the space you keep them in and also some are aggresive some are not. I've keep a pair for more than 8 years with no problem. |

Its advisable to put them in a separate tank, they are better off alone since they are lone rangers. There are stories where ppl managed to kept them together for quite some time, maybe they kept from small and probably diff gender specimen. You can try but why risk them dying by doing so ? |

I have a male aand female PNT in my pond measuring 8x5x5 feet together with my koi and they are doing fine. The female is much bigger about 12 inches and male 9 inches... They seem to be ok with each other and hope it will coitinue with each other. Ihe first time put the male inside, it was frightened of the female and kept swimming away. I monitored them for about an hour first to ensure there was no aggression with net close by just in case...eventuallt it turned out fine... You just have to try and then monitor...
Added on April 18, 2010, 10:36 pmHey guys, I have a pair of star tortoises, female about 6 inches and make about 5 inches. A few days ago my female laid two eggs about 3.5cm. I was shocked as the female is stll small. I saw the male mounting her a few times but thought he was just practicing as he is still small. I buried the eggs in a container in some soil and put a light off and on to ekeep it warm. Does anone have any experience in hatching star tortoise eggs and can you please share? How big /how old before they can mate? How to keep the eggs till hatch? Thanks! This post has been edited by cheldra: Apr 18 2010, 10:36 PM |

Hi,
Just curious. Those with sulcata, what are you gonna do with them when they grow up into giants? As far as I know, even for those living in semi-D house would have problem housing them in the garden. |

Yeah, i know TTT are slow growers compared to mammals and fishes... etc...but well,...i think long term...i mean 5 to 10 years down the road. Well, that just me.Anyway, do not want to be party poopers but please read up if anyone plans on really big tortoises. http://www.anapsid.org/sulcata.html http://www.anapsid.org/sulcata2.html http://www.turtlerescues.org/sulcata_challenge.htm |

I have some questions
Previously, my RES are kept indoor as we live in an apartment. And still is actually, but this time around, we have a balcony! The balcony's pretty small, and the lower bottom is cemented till my upper thigh. Now i plan to put them on the balcony instead of indoor as it's a bit packed in my studio unit. Just wondering, will they be baked to death? The balcony is something like this: balcony from the side view ... ![]() the blue box is the tank, leaning against the wall so it is somehow shaded ![]() Added on April 20, 2010, 11:19 pmWondering if this is alright? Really want to move my RES to my koi pond at my folks, but my parents are quite busy, and i don't wanna burden them more with my RES. They are taking care of my guinea pig that they loved This post has been edited by static: Apr 20 2010, 11:19 PM |

TQ for the info... but oledi got myself a pair of PNT (3" inch) from my nearby local aquarium shop. Now keeping it in 2'x1'x1' tank..should b spacious enough for now. If they start attacking each other i'll get another tank for the fella There are stories where ppl managed to kept them together for quite some time, maybe they kept from small and probably diff gender specimen.
