Your iPhone 3G official unlock or unlocked by kind of turbo-sim or such?

If official unlocked, should work perfectly but for illegal unlock, there should be NO resolution yet. Same as my previous iPhone 3G, could not use internet with same error msg "not connected to the internet" And because of that I sold my iPhone 3G. Advise you to get official unlocked sets instead of locked sets.

Dodgy bro, you mean your set is unlocked via illegal software? Not by official unlocked by Apple?

OMG! That means there's solution to un-officially unlock iPhone3G. But are you sure confirm not legally unlocked? Thx.

OMG!! That means if want to determine whether the set is official unlocked or not, have to refer to Apple site? The Apple site that you refer to check your set which shows it's locked to carrier is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 ? If not, can I have the website? Hopefully that the official website update recently.

If i'm not mistaken, rebelsim/turbo-sim or any bypass sim can't unlock the 3G network. So when buying the phone, you can test data/internet service, but can't 100% confirm. So I think the best way is to check the serial via http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

Fyi I just bought an iPhone3G 8GB unlocked from ultraportable (threat here) I using Celcom3G. Works fine with internet/data/call/sms/GPS too. rclxms.gif

3G signal is strong (KL). Everything seems to be perfect so official unlocked sets shouldn't give you any headache (what I've been worried about before I bought).

Sometimes it's better not to compare the price with others so it won't hurt you so much. biggrin.gif

Anyway, I bought it for RM2.3k, 2nd hand 8GB Singapore set. Checked in www.apple.com.sg warranty till August 2009. It's bout 2months old phone. Condition consider perfect. Some scratches behind, on the Apple logo.

Maybe you think I get it cheap, but I can tell that I lost few hundred because of nothing.

When iPhone3G first released, I bought US locked set for RM3.2k + Rebel Sim RM100. Then I sold it off for RM2.7k. Then I bought HTC Touch Pro RM2,950 + 8GB memory bout RM80. Sold my Touch Pro ystdy night for RM2.5k and bought iPhone3G today for RM2.3k.

After all, I got a really perfect working condition iPhone3G. And total lost - RM830. RM830 for nothing. If compare to your case, I don't think you bought it for RM2.3k + RM830 : RM3130 8GB unlocked set? biggrin.gif

I hope if you compare like this, you will feel you're lucky and didn't bought it as expensive as you thought.

You can take a look at my post when i'm with my ex-iPhone3G locked US set.

Even if Dev-Team come out with unlock software, it's not 100% sure that you can fully utilize all the functions in your iPhone3G.

I've used Rebel sim (by-pass sim) before, call/sms works but not internet. Sometimes when i'm talking on the phone from my area to another area (quite a distance) there will be drop calls and sudden network lost. I have to insert my sim into another phone, it will still shows no network, I have to search network manually, then insert back to iPhone3G to get it work.

It had been months for Dev-Team to develop unlocker software, they have also stated there might be no unlock software. They don't promise anything. I understand that they work very hard on it but the security for iPhone3G is far more secure than the 1st gen.

Strongly suggest you to unlock it officially or else you might be facing alot of problems that you don't wanted to and frustrated. Another word, you will regret. Try to find open box unlocker. US don't provide official unlock?

If you're coming back to M'sia, I think you can check whether Singapore provide open box unlock. As I read some other LYN forumer stated that 1 of his friend bought iPhone3G from Vodafone (Australia) locked set then bring it to Optus (Australia) to official unlock it.

That's jailbreak, not unlock. Jailbreak = allows you to install any softwares/games/apps in your iPhone3G. Without jailbreak, you can only install games from iTunes Store, either you purchase or free apps.

Added on October 24, 2008, 10:57 amAnd yeap. Jailbreak works.
