The error message I received from connecting to the internet are:

APN of 'net' can't be used once u have activated 3G.

even if the 3G signal is suck at the area, it will switch automatically to EDGE and then GPRS, depending on availability (supposed to).just make sure u have put the right APN for 3G activated account (unet).
