3G is UNET.
Try *136# instead
*
sorry sorry it's *136#
btw if we previously request for unlimited 3G thru operator (and after the operator asks use 3G phone or not) normally they will already activate 3G from the start. that should be the case as TS already using internet on other phone.

Hi there,

I have an iPhone 3G contract with AT&T. But I'm planning to unlock it when I go back to M'sia next Feb. So I need to know if the apps in the iPhone works with Maxis network?

If not, it defeats the purpose of all the iPhone apps right. I know about the "unofficial" method to unlock the phone, but I think it doesn't really work officially as well as AT&T. Please guide.

i'm using a iPhone 3G 16GB bought from Bangkok 2 weeks ago, software unlocked (no Turbosim, dunno how it's done), FW 2.1. iPhone origin is AT&T after checking serial number.

I have the 3G service activated and running. The minor problem that i have with Maxis 3G service with my iPhone 3G is that at areas where the 3G or EDGE is not available or even when no service, it will reconnect to the Maxis and then ask me to key in my Maxis pin again (unlocking). Anyone has this problem to when moving from a service area to a no service area ? I find a lot of areas at Klang Valley doesn't have 3G service using my iPhone but somehow my Nokia e61 works better.

Probably think it's an incompatibility issue with iPhone 3G with Maxis. The 3G service on iPhone really drain the battery, so i only turn on when i need it.

Appreciate your comments / experience. Thanks.

Dodgy bro, you mean your set is unlocked via illegal software? Not by official unlocked by Apple?

OMG! That means there's solution to un-officially unlock iPhone3G. But are you sure confirm not legally unlocked? Thx.

The serial number shows it's from AT&T. Referring to Apple site, that serial number is a locked AT&T. So, that means, there's a software unlocked it (since my is not using xSIM).

At Bangkok, a lot of the shops there sell "software unlock" and xSIM unlock as well. The seller told me they pay for the software unlock meaning i can't upgrade through iTunes.

The odd thing about my software unlock is that i have no options (i don't have that switch in the settings) to choose operator. Even when i roam it automatically selects the foreign operator. It works fine so i have no problem with it.

Probably i have to wait until the dev team / ZiPhone can do something to have a full unlock.

OMG!! That means if want to determine whether the set is official unlocked or not, have to refer to Apple site? The Apple site that you refer to check your set which shows it's locked to carrier is http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 ? If not, can I have the website? Hopefully that the official website update recently.

easy.

your at & t iphone was unlocked via the hardware method (which still technically, at the end of the day works like a turbosim)

frankly speaking, if you are referring to the 3g version, i have never ever heard of an unlocking process of that caliber.

If i'm not mistaken, rebelsim/turbo-sim or any bypass sim can't unlock the 3G network. So when buying the phone, you can test data/internet service, but can't 100% confirm. So I think the best way is to check the serial via http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937

Is there really an "officially unlocked" iPhone 3G? None that I know of.

I'm using the iPhone 3G with AT&T carrier now. Wondering how am I gonna unlock it next time in M'sia? Since it's not meant to be sold in M'sia, therefore I think its not really compatible with the network in M'sia.

Also, I think some of the apps won't function in M'sia, liek the GPS apps. Well technically, iPhone will not work in M'sia. Even if it does, you will not fully utilize the full function of it. Of course, after you unlock it, you can make calls or SMS.

Right now, I'm looking at a backup phone just in case my iPhone 3G doesn't work in M'sia. Looking at N95.
