to restore iPhone and reset the phone to default factory settings, follow these steps:

1. Turn off iPhone - Hold down the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the red slider. Ignore this step if your iPhone is already off.
2. Press and hold down the Home button for about 10 seconds until a yellow triangle with a text which says Please Connect to iTunes appears.

3. Plug the iPhone into Mac or Windows PC. Release the button if you haven’t.
4. Run and open iTunes if it’s not already opened yet.
5. iTunes will prompt a message that says iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click OK.
6. You will be taken to the iPhone pane. Then, click on Restore.
7. Wait for the full restoration process to complete, and the iPhone will be back to the original settings state as when it left the manufacturing factory, typically a working phone again if you face any problem, unless it’s hardware related

TS run nevermind, i need to tumpang this thread.
cause i'm having same problems
previously on 1.1.4. one morning just hanged on apple boot logo
tried DFU mode and updating to 2.1. WinPwn, PwnageTool, all also cannot make it.
keep getting either error 1603 or 1604.

i experimented a bit and found that if i simply create a custom firmware using pwnagetool, the boot logo changes open startup. but it still hangs halfway in the procedure of "Preparing iPhone for restore" and then pops up the error.
which means the phone is responding but up to a limited time.
*
This is part of my search thru other thread ealier.

My problem same is similar to the quoted above. I've done few things to make my computer detect the iPhone but fail.

p/s : On that thread there's no solution found accept that TS done DFU....

if not mistaken error 1603/4 is the firmware not correct or compiling is not done correctlly. the only why i can suggest is use DFU mode. or hard reset, press home and power button together for 15 sec then power 2 sec

iMac24 ! try this :

make sure your iPhone is connected to your computer before you start step 1 and 2

1. Press and hold Home button and power button simultaneously for 10 seconds,

2. Release power button BUT don't release Home button (press and hold Home button for another 10 seconds)

If you done it correctly your itunes will "On" by it self and search for your iPhone.

----------

Try this first and let us know......

Ahh..... I remember it so well, I had the same problem. Do not do a full reset because it screws up your phone, the reset to factory is for iphone that is not JB or unlock before hence you and I had that problem. I would suggest that you do Winpwn it back to FW 2.01 first by using this guide.

http://sleepers.net/news/2008/07/25/winpwn-20-guide/

Read the section on how to DFU, there are suppose to be 3 way so of DFU depending on the batches of iphone. For me I did this.

1. Attach the phone to the pc
2. Turn the phone off
3. Press and hold power. Keep holding power. As soon as you see display on the screen of any sort press and hold home.
4. Hold power and home together for *exactly* 10 seconds
5. Release power but keep holding home until the pc beeps as a USB device is recognized.

When the PC beep then the screen on the iphone would blank out and I think it would flash white once.
And if you had followed the guide then your itune 7.7 would be PWN and you should be ready to shift restore to restore back to FW 2.01.

Now KISS YOUR IPHONE biggrin.gif and SCREAM

Go search for a guide on how to upgrade to FW 2.1, I use the easy way by download a JB version of 2.1 and restore. It works for me.

Hope this help.

Jackdon.

It says in Quickpwn, Uploading exploit bootloader and the iphone screen is white but after all it seems that the iphone screen turns back to nothing as in black and then it's wait wait. How ah ?

Thanks for the update, mate. A gentle reminder in the future though, if you're gonna post up a thread like this requesting technical support, do follow up and keep everyone here posted on your status. If your problem was resolved some time ago then this thread should've been closed there and then.

Having others guessing over this case repeatedly despite the fact that it has been resolved, isn't the most productive way of spending time in here. wink.gif
