Hi guys i am new here
I am deciding whether to buy ps3 or xbox 360 based on the online features
Everyone says that xbox live is much better compared to ps3 , why is that so? Also is online gaming in these console fast on streamyx? Will there be lag issues?
I used to play Dota on a private server with a ping of roughly 30 i think, and there was no lag at all, not even a 1 sec lag. Will online gaming on consoles be laggy or will there be no lag? few secs lagg is a real turn off.
Also if PSN does come to Malaysia, does that mean that we will have smooth online game play for the PS3? since the servers will be local?
Please answer my questions, thanks.

Hi there, this question could be better answered in the specific console subforums, and I fear this could spark ANOTHER console war. But anyways:
1) Xbox Live in general (IMHO) is a more well realised online platform, with comprehensive friend list options, integrated voice chat (in and out of game) as well as Achievement comparison and tracking. The invite system is also very intuitive. Having said that, there is a price, and it's roughly RM 200+ a year.
2) PSN is FAST catching up with the Xbox Live features, so by the end of the year, comparisons may be moot. Right now Xbox Live experience leads just barely due to the overall tight integration, but we all know that's going to change especially since Sony is fast ramping up updates to PSN.
3)Lag. Yeah, both consoles suffer from it. Not because of the console or game network code, but because of streamyx. There has been days where I can play for hours silky smooth, then 4-5 days of no connection at all.
4) PSN Malaysia, I don't know yet.

just my 2 cent: Xbox360 - Easy setting, voice chat clear and less lagging when play online (most local player if from US or UK.. got some lag) ... but u MUST PAY for online.. around Rm200+/- per year.. PS3 - Diff to invite, got some lagging (maybe snailmyx), voice chat not clear (maybe snailmyx too) and FREE for life.. ... So u decide.. it ur money anyway..

wow thanks for the fast reply
I am really frustrated if the connection is bad. I use to play online on steam also, and the connection was so bad... i gave up playing after 4 days or something.
Im sorry if these post will offend all the true gamers here. I would rather go for the modified xbox360 since the unmod 360 with streamyx is not able to give me online satisfaction.
Before i make a console purchase, I will wait for PSN Malaysia, which Sony say that they would announce at the end of this year, and see if their online gameplay is fast or not

QUOTE(Itchyfingers @ Oct 14 2008, 04:01 PM) I would rather go for the modified xbox360 since the unmod 360 with streamyx is not able to give me online satisfaction. Since you mentioned Steam, were you playing worldwide games, or local games like in MY and Singapore? As Samurai mentioned, if you play with those who reside(host) in the UK and US, you are definitely gonna experience lag, where else if you play local games, where everyone is nearer, hey, you can even get a sub 150ms/ping in a local server. Under 50ms/ping is like the server is just down your road So think about it, it's not streamyx(heck, I use Jaring wireless 1mb which is like 512kbps only), and lag isn't too bad these days because companies code lag-compensation fixes for games.
