People,

I have a very peculiar problem here. I am using iPhone 3G with FW 2.1, unlocked set from Singapore. I am using it virgin style (no jailbreak etc). I have been using for about a month without any issue until yesterday.

I was still using the phone(phone call and SMS) yesterday morning. The moment I went into my office, my phone showed "No Service". Which was weird. So I turned off and on the phone. Still the same.

Then I went to Settings>Carrier to search for the carrier. It searched and found all the providers "My Maxis, My Maxis 3G, My Celcom, My Celcom 3G, etc". So I selected My Maxis 3G. Once I select that, I will get "Network Lost - Your selected cellular network is no longer available. You can choose a different network in Settings". I have tried this with every other provider 3G and non 3G. Still the same.

So went to Apple Support page to try out their suggestions. One of their things was to toggle Airplane Mode. When I do that, the phone will start searching for new network. After 2-3 minutes later, it will detect back the network. But this connection will last between 10-30 minutes. I have tried resetting the phone and still the same thing.

I was pretty set that something is wrong with the phone and decided to restore it back once I get home. To my surprise, there is no problem connecting to Maxis at my housing area. rclxub.gif

I thought it was fluke, played around with the phone for like an hour, still active connection. Still baffled, decided to restore the phone anyway, just in case. After restore, nothing was wrong. I was quite happy.

Stepped in to the office this morning. Same thing happen doh.gif . The dreaded "No Service" is back.

I tried swapping SIM card with my friend. It's still the same. My SIM can work in his phone without a problem and his SIM card cannot work in mine. Both phone next to each other. I don't know what else to do.

Tried that, both phone side by side, one works the other doesn't.

Now I am trying to hunt down some Digi, UTV, Celcom SIM cards

I kinda figured out how to temporarily fix it.
Whenever I turn off "Enable 3G" under Settings>General>Network then my phone can get signal without a problem. The moment I turn it on then its back to "No Service"

I don't know why this is happening

Now it's in edge mode, and I am now paying unlimited 3G plan with maxis and if i cannot get 3G in my office, looks like a big waste for me. I have to monitor this situation first

What you can do is just give maxis a ring and ask if they are doing some tower maintenance or something near your office.

You are probably right, because as of today, the 3G seem to work fine in my office area. Maxis probably was doing something in the area.

bjkhan,

it is normal.. I am Maxis 3G user too.
especially if u come out of lift or car park.

I recommend u to select "Automatic" rather than Maxis or Maxis 3G in your carrier...

The signal will come back automatically, though sometimes may takes few minutes.

The issue actually happens when I am stationary in my office for 8 hours. Plus my network setting is always automatic. I was just trying to engage it manually since the automatic can't detect signal.
